Because it appears the wind will be ne -nne on sunday, do you think it'll be halfway surfable at puts where it's nice and shielded?

Yet again, the picture is a bit confused at the moment
Been a bit of a theme of late! Too much going on out in the atlantic with various systems orbiting around each other which is very hard to predict.

What is pretty certain is that there will be waves, and there will be wind. The doubt is in wind direction and strength.
But at the moment, its looking like the wind will be very strong (particularly later in the weekend) and a big swell - so basically storm surf.

Personally, I'm not going to bother travelling very far this weekend. There will be moments when its not too bad, but they wont last long enough to justify a journey.

The wind (which is described by where its coming from, not where its going, so its a south westerly by the way) will be pretty strong - but Putts might just be doable. Will be pretty rubbish though.

...if you're living miles away from the ocean and only surfing weekends, you need to start looking and surfing all over, not just the area around croyde. There are spots a lot closer to you than Croyde which might just be working this weekend....

I know, I just love the fact that you've got Saunton / Croyde / Puts / Wooly so close to each other and one of them at least is normally surfable.
I also love my sneaky camping spot if none of the sites are open, and I love the thatch...

I keep meaning to try Kimmeridge bay and never get around to it. I'm put off by the fact that it's half the distance but would take just as long to get to!

K-Bay, and somewhere in West wales - two places I will get around to trying this year. Possibly sennen as well, but I'd want to go down there for at least 4+ days as it's a hell of a drive, and if I've got the time off (and money) for that I'd also be thinking about Portugal / Morocco.

There are several 5 mins down the road in Croyde. Depending on where you're coming from you'll probably have to go through Croyde to get to puts.

Surfed out. Expensive compared to redwood.

I've tried most of the shops in Croyde, and I now go to redwood.

Okay, updated forecast...

Saturday is going to be a reasonable size wave, but almost direct onshores for Croyde etc. Putts would have some shelter from the wind, but the tide will be dropping for most of the day and Putts wont work. Almost certainly just windchop. Croyde and saunton will have a wave, but it'll be messy and with a hell of a paddle out.

Sunday may work at Puts if you can get in before high tide (10am) but after that wont work at all. The other beaches will be completely blown out.

So nothing very special this weekend, and more or less unsurfable on sunday.

(Note to Phil - yes, I know there will be other sheltered spots working at times this weekend, have fun if you get in. But this is for the less experienced and/or travelling surfers who dont want to drive for four hours for a miserable session)

Typically, the charts are all changing - its not quite as clear cut as it was

I still *think* it'll be too breezey for really good quality swell other than at very sheltered (secret) spots, but it *might* just work out...

The low is moving further north and quicker than originally forecast, so if that continues, some clean waves might be found after all. Beginning of next week is looking lovely and clean in the SW with the sun out too!

Still "probably" gonna be messy on the north coast this weekend though...

going to get in at a nice sheltered spot i found this weekend, also going to try out a reef on the south coast when its working next to give the board a proper caining

Been busy with job stuff - if that sorts itself out, I'll be taking a much needed few days in the water!

Even if not, I'll be in devon/cornwall in the next couple of weeks.

Dont think I can get there this weekend, but if it does look like cleaning up I might get the chance. But we're well overdue a surf

Hows conditions looking for Hells mouth area, I'm going down there tommorow an sunday,

From what i can make out from the charts there will be waves and hell of a wind.

Only looking for clean chest high surf as i'm a lerner, think i've found most of the breaks down there so sould know which ones are sheltered

Any advise would be welcome

The question mark is where the good weather will end and the wind and rain will begin.

Any open beaches in North wales will pretty definitely be blown out.

Was thinking of going Aberdaron way I know a sheltered spot around there, 2 weeks ago when the mouth was big and blown out it was working, 1 week ago when HM was big and blown out it wasnt working ??? any advise Y not ????

Likely to be swell direction and/or tide, but as I dont know the spot (or the area really) I cant really say.

this weekend up here eh... Well it certainly won't be like it had been as the swell period has droppped. You'll get somthing on the North Shore of the llyen if the swell hits above 7/8ft (pushing to high tide only) Prob 2-3ft or so... otherwise the tide will kill the sluggish swell thats about this weekend. Next week is a better story tho

so basically. this weekend up here = nothing special and you'll need shelter.
