lockable straps? what do you do with your longboard?

Postby thaya » Wed Mar 07, 2007 10:05 am

I'm planning on buying a longboard but I'm worried about when I'm camping and have to leave it on a car (as it'll be too big to put inside).

Do you think these lockable straps would be any good?

I'm not sure... surely someone could just cut through them? I've seen things to put in your fin slot but I don't know how easy or how much hassle that'll be.

What does everyone else do?

The webbing has steel cabling running through the centre of the webbing by the looks of it so probably as secure as most bike locks. Have to be careful with ur tie down as you don't wantto damage ur board but at the same time don't want the thieves to be able to slide ur board out.

I've seen a board rack that fits on a Thule roof rack, it holds longboards and locks so nobody can take your board if you run into the shoppe, restaurant, xxx store, ....oops!
ANyways, they are out there, but I don't know how much they cost, might be expensive.

A fin lock like this will help too.

I tend to take the boards off the car, stick 'em by the tent, run the least underneath the outer and attach it to something on the inside of the tent.

Should get a lock though.

Looks pretty solid to me.

or, you could take the fin off and sleep on it over night...

thanks... i decided to get lockable straps and a leash lock for peace of mind (the one with removing the fin sounded a bit too time consuming!) Haven't tested them out yet... will do next week when i'm camping in cornwall. hopefully it'll deter any opportunist thief.

Hay Guys

I've just bought a pair of Claw Lockable soft surf racks and they are doing the job perfectly. After reading your posts I think its just what you need.

The lock is inside the car and there is a steel cable in the mesh of the webbing so no one can cut through it and steel your boards.

It also has all the benefits of a hard rack with none of the draw backs!

Take a look on www.claw-lock.com

I hope this helps !
