surfing backside help

Postby Beachbum » Fri Mar 02, 2007 6:36 am

I was wondering how do you do tricks while surfing backside? It seems that I can only ride along the face going backside and want to try doing some top turns and what not. Anyone got any advice on how to turn up the face steeper since I cant control the board as well going backside as it is going faceside on a wave.

That's weird, usually backside turns are easier. Try surfing it more off the tail.

yeah, backside turns are usually easier..my backside turns are tighter than my frontsides..a tip: when u turn, turn ur head with ur shoulders on the direction u want to go and your whole body will follow..goodluck!

Yep backside should be easy as long as you can keep balance. Just turn the shoulders and lean your bodyweight into that direction and you will automatically rise to the top.

I find that to get a nice turn off the top, or a cutback, just angle slightly up the face so you start to rise on the wave....then do a bottom turn like you would do if you were surfing frontside.

Is there a special technique or something as surfers lift the nose of their board over the white wash to throw them back down the wave?
