Wetsuit hood or cap?

Postby Sillysausage » Mon Feb 26, 2007 4:55 pm

just wondering, hood or cap? surf in wales, but travel quite a bit around the uk for surf spots. i've never used a cap, but my hood tended to blow open after a wipe out and thought a cap would prevent this?
thanks for any replies

I bought a hood the other day, and unlike my suit, boots and gloves which seem to have stretched, my hood seems to have shrunk.

I call it my little brain squeezer! :D

ive had this recently but my hood is a little broken - has it got a thread to tighten it up around the face?

Never tried a cap - but i guess they would be a little less constricting

Guess its just about cold enough for you southern poofs to need some headgear, I use a full hood from the end of OCT because i'm a bit nesh. What do you mean by blown open? Flushing? I know Rip Curl do a hood with a dedicated ear bit, sorry there is probably a more technical term for it, that is supposed to work ok.

i had to buy a cap cuz I couldn't get my head through a hood (hair got trapped and pulled really badly) It's fantastic and the best money I've ever spent (well, almost).

Do you mean pulled off the back of your head? Or flushing with water? :?

A cap wont get pulled off your head (well, not usually) but it flushes through very easily, worse than a hood.

Caps dont keep you as warm as hoods, but some people find them much more comfortable - like me, for instance, I freaked out the one time I tried a hood in a fit of claustrophobic nastiness

Iv not used a hood but have got a cap, wore it for the first time at the weekend, did't even know I had it on it was mega comfy,

Didnt like a hood coz of the feel around my neck and chin, go to a shop and try what fits you best and is comfyest

Got a cap for this winter, and it's fantastic. Really makes a difference, no more icecream headache! :D However, it's a bit uncomfortable around the neck where it straps up. And after one big wipeout in Eire it was knocked right back and got twisted :? But still, i'm very happy with it :D

yea, sorry meant flushing, but it fits well, its super tight but when i wipeout i get a megga ice cream head, and it feels worse than if i don't wear one because all the cold water gets trapped in the hood and then flushes down my suit, might just not bother with one anymore
