From soft top to short board

Postby Kengyu » Tue Aug 24, 2004 8:23 pm

I have been borrowing a friends 8' soft top board for awhile now and I am pretty comfortable standing so I want to start the transition to a short board but I am still very much a beginner. Any suggestions on what size board would be good for me? I am 5'11" and about 140lbs. Thanks for the help!

I would go with a Fish short board... these boards have a lot more float and are wider then a regulart shortboard however still respond almost as well as a regular shortboard. If you do get a fish get a 6'6 fish... this has plenty of volume and can still surf very well. I have one too... a 6'6 sharp eye fish and im 5'7 and 140 lbs.

If you do go for a regular shortboard, get a 6'8 or 6'9 board. (this will provide for some lost volume.)
