Ok, it does mess up that nice lookin nose on a brand new board, but they not only protect you and others from injury, they also stop you chipping the nose of your board (which is pretty easy to do).

yeh iv got a nasty scar on my ribs from my board when i came off and my 6" hit me it dug in and caned but ever scince i got the nose tip its all gud and it doesnt look too bad it u get the right one for your board

I have one on my shorty. I watched a freind bail off of his board, when we where kids, and it hit another freind just below the eye. Ever since I put one on my shorties. He got realy messed up from that. The nose gaurds go on leaving a pocket of air between it and the board. It will still hurt like hell to get hit with the tip, but at tleast it will cushion it a little, and it's softer than the nose alone. They also make ones that are real slick for sliding into boardbags, mine slides right in.

When I picked up my first shortboard from the shaper, he told me it might be a good idea to get a nose guard.

I tried it, but never seen how it could make much difference. It didn't fit too good, it was a pain putting it on, I couldn't hardly breath with the damn thing on, people looked at me kinda weird when I had it on, and it was a nightmare getting it off....my nose was sore for days.

How about ducktaping a sponge ball on the nose? :P Preferably the nose of your board but you can try your nose instead and look like a clown!

I have never really used one and think they look crap but just recently I watched a mate take off on an overhead wave he made it through to the shorebreak where he pearled it and fell off into shore as he hit the water his unguarded nose of his board hit him in the cheek and went up through the roof of his mouth and nearly into his eye socket! It was very very very nasty! Yes its a flukey accident that will probably never happen again but he was very very messed up over this accident and needed many many stitches and needed arteries heat sealed. the doc reckoned if it had gone in by another few millimeters it could have have ruptured the eye!!! and blinded him for life! If he had had a nose gaurd on it would have probably resulted in just a very nasty bruise!! I have to agree though they can look bloody ugly. I think its Ocean and Earth that do a pack of two so that you have a choice of size and shape to better fit your board. The clear ones are the best looking I think!

I have nose guards on two of my boards, but have since decided not to use them. I think they're good and do give you a little peace of mind in case you get spear someone with it or yourself.
