Is there surf on fl. Gulf coast?

going on a family trip to fl, leaving in two days so the faster the responses the better - but we are going to be staying in saint petersburg. is there any surf over there? i know the atlantic side is prob better - but, gotta do the whole family thing. maybe someone knows of a local shop that rents boards? (don't think i can bring mine). doesn't have to be anything spectacular, just some nice little waves to play around and have a good time. thanks.
