Senegal and mauritania, maybe even Gambia?

Im currently in Morocco and have been here for the past 3 months. During my stay here i have spoken to a few travellers who have gone further south into Mauritania and senegel (one of which was on a crazy french guy who was on a push bike and cycled from france to Senegel). Aparrently these countries are more accessible than what people would generally think. Visas are cheap and easy to obtain. After asking the travellers about the coast and surfable waves apparently it is very do-able but it is strongly advisable to travel with at least 4 other people (safety in numbers). I havent really thought about it propperly but im considering after the summer of this year to drive back to morocco and beyond. It would be quite an adventure and a memorable one at that.

u are right , senegal and mauritania are full of very good surf spots , and now there is a road from morocco to senegal passing by mauritania; the problem is that mauritania is full bombs under the sand from the militaries, so it is quiet dangerous to go out of the roads there are many awsome beachbreaks in mauritania , senegal is an already known surfing destination , uncrowded at all and very good spots

Bombs under the sand? sounds like fun Pick a few up and chuck them out to sea on a flat day! I havent been influenced by a fake video whatsoever

To be honest i doubt there is a big risk of landmines in Mauritania. Although undoubtably there are some. Surely that would just add to how adventurous the trip would be. I mean, the chance of getting blown up by a landmine in Mauritania has to be of around an equal chance of getting bitten by a shark. Im willing to take the risk!

What provoked my thoughts of exploring these countries was speaking to some people who were in a rally from England to Gambia. There apparently was a convoy of 60 cars that was involved in this rally but i only saw 5 of them in Sidi Ifni, Morocco. The catch was that they must be driving a vehicle that was purchased for under 100 pounds. There was some really beaten up looking wheels. Cars from Renault 5 s to little ancient fiestas. I even saw one of those really old skodas that we used to always mock in school. How cool is that? They all had some really awesome stories to tell and i was disapointed that i didnt meet them when they were on the way down because i would have hitched a lift with them.

I think though if i was to do it i would have to be with at least 2 other vehicles and maybe 8 to 10 people. I guess October would be the best time for setting out so i have around 9 months to find some brave individuals who would join me in potentially a journey of a lifetime!

well i believe u wootzy in somethings , but like the landmine , believe me that it's true .
there is a big business of used cars sale between morocco and mauritania , and once u go out of the road , it becomes dangerous , but there is a road since tangier till dakar in senegal, some friends just did the trip of senegel and mauritania and south morocco from with a renault clio car so what i wish is loads of good waves , who knows , i might be interested to go as well before the date limit

Hello there,

Am in the early stages of planning a trip for the end of the summer, long slow journey down the west coast of europe and north west africa... just got back from the Gambia last night from a short package holiday, really nice place, pretty much flat all week tho, Dakar looked amazing from the plane mind you!

I spoke to a few Amsterdam Dakar challenge people and the journey seems very doable even for my clapped out Merc 210 which everyone seems to drive in the Gambia! Need some spares, extra fuel etc but a convoy would make the whole thing safer and more fun.

Am coming to cornwall in a few weeks perhaps you'd like to meet up to discuss this?
