Bonjour folks! I am a poor soul who lives inland on the east coast of the Uk where there isn't any surf. I haven't surfed for a year, and I am going crazy!

I took to surfing when I set off around the globe - I've been lucky to surf some pretty awesome breaks across the world, starting in Thailand, moving on to Bondi (where I learnt the most), and from there right thru Aussie, New Zealand, and some of SoCal (mostly venice beach). I did this for 7 months solid.

My local break used to be Tynemouth, but now I live in the midlands and don't see the sea very often, partly cause I've been too broke for too long! I sold my board in LA, so now I don't have one. But things are on the up, and I reckon i'll get a new board before too long. I've never adapted to the UK conditions though, and I'm really a warm water surfer.

I plan on a summer trip to either Fuetreventura or (gulp) Fistral, or maybe somewhere on the welsh coast. After that I hope i'll have my visa to move back to Aus, at which time I'll live in Sydney (probably Coogee bay), and surf at Bondi, Maroubra and Manly regularly, and travel further once in a while.

When I've done this for a few years, I'm retiring to a beach house in Byron Bay to surf, catch fresh fish, and share my plot with a few lucky visitors!

I like to think I have life worked out in this way, if not in many others!

My local break now would probably be Skegness. Which I find very, very depressing! I'm 6'4, 14 stone, and used to ride a 7'6 mal, but i'm thinking a 6'10 shortie would be a good move up the chain. So that's me. I'm still a beginner, but a very lucky one whose seen loads of different conditions in lots of amazing places.

Here's me strolling out at Piha, NZ.

So, hey! Nice to be here, I\'m looking forward to getting involved again! :D

I had my first surf there, at Koh Samui - but I haven't been anywhere else. Some decent waves, but I guess it's a problem being in the gulf of thailand. Nice place to surf though! The local fellas were ripping, i remmeber that!

Should have made the trip to Phuket! We get heaps more consistent surf. A little onshore, but still nice!

Postby Smackinyermooey » Sun Feb 18, 2007 3:32 pm

Hi Everyone.

Was 'surfing' the net (no pun intended, honest.) and stumbled over this site. I want to learn how to surf and get catching some of those tiny little waves on one of them thar foamy beasts.

That'll do me, quite frankly, for at least the meantime. Then I can scare myself feckless when I've 'ad a bit of practice. hehe

Oh. And I've noticed surf babes are quite hot :D

Anyone in my area that fancies dragging me out to sea and leaving me to my own devices? No, not you mum... The judge wasn't happy the first time you tried it

Hi Sal,

Cheers mate. Is that you in the batman suit? I wouldn't carry that kind of prop through heathrow!!

It was bad enough when we went to Budapest in fancy dress and ended up with me as a priest and my mate as an Arab Sheik with a backpack!!!

He did get the slippery digit by security though. The clever-dumb balance restored, the world continues rotating peacefully

Sand sand sand and more sand! Most of it is beach breaks. There are a few reefs but they are prety hardcore!
It's just a bit nicer water, temperature, atmosphere here and..of course...the surf is bigger!

Your making a dam good argument for me to try and qualify for the Phuket Invitational Triathlon, then i would HAVE to go there....and of course take and extra week to travel around...aka surf.
