what size long board do i need!

hey, im 14 and i got myself a 9' performance bic about a year ago and it hasn't gone wrong yet. are you learning to surf or are you a confident surfer and also do you want a cuising longboard for noes riding of something with a bit more turning power?

hey,im just learning to surf but i can kitesurf, and the waves whare i live are not huge, i would prefur somthing with a lilbit more turnig power,

well if you want somethign with turning power and the waves arnt huge, i would porbably go for something around 9'. If your learning i would porbably advise a board that isnt fiberglass. i would go for either a bic 9' classic, or a southpoint 9'2" which bonga perkins road at 20ft pipe

but there are alot more boards out there, but iv riden these two and there both realy good for turning and they wont break, and as your a beginer , you will probably drop the board or hit into something, because we all have at some point.

i was in the same position as your in exept i had been surfing for about a year and a half, and i got myself the bic and stuck a perfermance fin on it and iv ridden it in 7ft messy surf and its still fun.

hey,would a 7feat long board work? cos im pretty light and i live in kenya witch is in africa and their are no surfshops around here so ill have to ship it. and can u surf on any decent sized wave or does is have to have some special features to it like consistency? cos the waves over here ar good sized but just one after the other.

well 7ft would be abit to small, you could go for a 7'6" and you should be ok

If you're going your ship a board in to Kenya, I would go for a decent 8ft+ fiberglass board because you don't want to have to send another one in, in like a year.

Because it'll be easy to learn on, plus once you've progressed past the real basic stages...it will still be a good board for higher performance riding.

I would suggest an 8'6".

I think fibreglass was suggested because should it get damaged it would be easier to fix than the bic boards which (correct me if I'm wrong Dec/ Blues)are injected plastic of some sort. I would go one further and say a polyester resin over an epoxy just for ease of repair and polyester resins may be easier to get hold of for you. With a bit of reading, time and care you can easily repair your own dings. Not sure where you are in Kenya but sounds like surf shops aren't a common thing.

At your age and size - you can surf anything you want! A few ideas of mine shaped a 6' longboard. sounds ridiculous but they're amazing everything that you can do on a mal you can do on one of these, cross step( not very far) and nose ridin!! it even fits snuggly into a smart car!! My advice is to ride what ever you want - it'll make you happier in the end

You have a point, as your name suggests a retro fish would go down well. Something you can catch any wave on and cruise or carve depending how you feel, those twin/ quad fin fishs' sure look fun.
