Butt-boarders vs. stand-up surfers

I find that when I do see them out, most of them tend to hang about in one spot away from the majority of surfers. Some of them can be tools, but then I find a lot of stand up surfers are tools too!

At the end of the day, nobody owns the ocean, and we all have a right to use it, as long as we act responsibly and courteously toward fellow watercraft users.

wierd

I figured that surfing was all about sharing waves. They way you guys write one might expect you all owned the waves.

I could understand if some jet ski was polluting the water in front of you were not welcomed, but when it people who have the same understanding of saving the planet, then it should be possible to find a way to share the waves.

Maybe it is because we still don’t have the same problem, with too many people in the water here in Denmark.

I guess I just have a very naive way about surfing then most of you guys. Or you have forgotten an important thing of surfing/life.

Actually, the ocean liner would have right of way anyway because it is the less manoeuvrable craft.

So do longboards come under the oceon liner regs

Definately..Pat42 says that anything over 6'2 is a boat!

PS..anything uner shoulder high should automaticlly be too small for surfing and given up to canoeyist dudes

smitty, go to butt-boarders.com, you might get some sympathy there
stay out of the waves with your craft, when there are surfers in the area

From my limited experience dealing with them in the water; it seems to me that they are less maneuverable in tighter areas (even when riding the wave). Pretty much everybody gets in someone elses way every once in a while, but here it seems to be the rule rather than the exception. And, when you're in the water they seem very imposing with their large craft and quite dangerous.

Sea-kayak-thingys are larger, heavier and more robust. And, from experince I know that one of them can do far more damage to a person than a surfboard can. (Although boards can be deadly too as I found out when I hit myself in the mouth the other week with mine, I was all swollen, I couldn't work, I was grotesque! :? ). Anyway, my point is that seems as they are more dangerous "goat boaters" should be more careful of other folk!

Sea-kayaks are a totally different type of goat-boat that the ones being discussed here, which are generally sit-on-top surf-kayaks, which are, as you say, more robust. No paddler in their right mind would take a sea-kayak into surf with the intention of surfing it, as they are very long and thin, designed to go in a straight line, much harder to turn.

Damn it, what do I care, I fleshin' hate all goat-boaters!

If you read more of them forum, there's a very open, tolerant attitude here, and I've yet to hear one person here talk like "they owned the waves"

GowerCharger wrote:so you dropped in on someone, and because you have no control over your "craft" you went crashing into him and where lucky to have not caused him a serious injury? sounds like typical goat-boat behavior to me. get back in the river.

This about summed the whole thread up for me.

Goat boaters - you are a danger to other sea users. You are a fleshing liability.

Chris, you want to talk about a tolerant responsible attitude? How about convincing the goat boaters to stop being so selfish and risking serious injury to others for their own pleasure.
