The most consistent places in Aus for surf year round are Newcastle (east coast north of sydney), Philip Island (near Melbourne) and Margaret River (West coast, south of Perth).
If you dont want anything too touristy u dont want to go near queensland. If you want big surf go to tassie, wa or Vic.
Somewhere in NSW may be an option for you, as the surf is very high quality, however consistency is not that great at some places, and water temperature is reasonably warm and most coastal towns are laid back.

where to go surf in oz

Postby sunbound » Mon Feb 05, 2007 12:52 am

hey,

A great region to surf in oz is New South Wales, especially the north part. Some towns like Bryon Bay, Lennox Head, and Evans Head are awesome and so is the surf. I was there last year. I used a surfing guidebook from blueplanetsurfmaps.com which was awesome. I think it was only about 6 bucks and it have info on a bunch of surf breaks in the area. anyways,

good luck
