Alright situation goes like this.
i've just recently upgraded from a long board to a short board.
it's 6'1 and i'm 168cms tall and weigh 65kg.
but everytime i go to stand up the back drops and i wipe out or the wave just goes pass and i can't catch it.
anyone with any idea's wanna hit me back would be great.
take it easy.
and have a good one.

That's a rough transition :?

"but everytime i go to stand up the back drops and i wipe out or the wave just goes pass and i can't catch it"

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but maybe you're putting too much weight on your back foot when you stand up?

Yep like the above said, paddle harder, take the drop later, and get your weight going forward.

Going from long to short, you can't stomp as hard on the take-off/pop-up on a shortboard. It has to be a smoother, more textured movement or else you stall. You need to keep that forward glide going.

If anything, I've always noticed that long to shortboarders, the board shoots out in front of them because they aren't used to the speed at takeoff a shortboard will generate down a wave. There's a bit more commitment to the drop.

May sound silly but i was told by this old dude who surfs at the same beach as me his words of wisdom were
"paddle further forward on your board"

Seemed to work ok for me.

yh, paddle so the noes of the board is on/in the water, and arch your back so it is just above the water, thats what i do and it works

Thank's for the tip's guy's.
But I'm fine once I get up eg. being towed by a jet ski then it's piss simple.
but I'll give all these a go and see what works for me.
maybe i just need to find a method that suits me.

Take it easy, And have a good one.

just not paddling enough? I was in mexico the second week of January, was my first time on a short board. I found that when I stood up when I though I was good, I didnt catch it. I found that when you think you are on the wave, paddle a bit more.

Its not that, you see the pros, a few paddles and pop up. Its different timeing. Its a late drop that gives you thr momentum a few strokes and your in the wave.

timing and positioning is everything. if you are too far outback you wonte generate enough speed to get onto the wave if you sit too far inside you will take a beating

Northswell -

It's the timing, sure, but it's also the speed you are traveling at. You see the pros only stroke a couple times because they can go from zero to sixty in two strokes while the rest of us it would take 10 or 20 strokes. Sure, they time it properly so they don't have to be going as fast as someone not timing it properly, but you do need forward motion to catch a wave.
