My new board...

This board is even more beautiful in person!!! One thing however, I noticed when I got home, this board is 8', instead of 8'6", which is what I had bought on eBay. Judging by my height in the picture, do you think those six inches would make that much of a difference? The place where I picked it up is about an hour and a half drive.

Before anyone else says this, nice looking board, and the length should be fine, but if you need someone to make the extra inches up give us shout,

Did our maiden run today in San Clemente. While the learning curve is a bit steeper than what I've been learning on at the surf school (they had me on a 9'6" softfoam board), my new board still catches waves like a dream. Paddling does not seem to be an issue for me, so I've at least got that going!

Still having issues standing up however. Every time I try, my knee pad seems to catch on the wax on my board. I do feel though like I'm closer to getting it at the end of today's session than at the beginning, so I do know that I'm learning. Just curious, how long did it take any of you to stand up when you first began learning?

I had a blast today, and as I lay on my couch watching tv with my laptop, I feel absolutely fabulous - the same as if I had a really good workout.

Wish I didn't have to work tomorrow so I could go back for more!!!

BTW, I named him Gustavo. Alfonso, Hernandez, and Fernando were close seconds.

Because I'm on a picture roll right now, here's some pics steve took of me from up top a hill today overlooking the beach. It's mainly me floundering around in the water, trying not to get hit in the face with a wall of water:

Cutest dog!!!! Well after my dog anyway :)

I think I might get an ex racing greyhound one day, seen as so many seem to get abandoned here. Is it the same in the US?

Also I heard that they dont need a whole heap of excersise, like one really good run a day and they are sorted?

Awwww I love animals. Any attempts to twist that sntence will be ignored

By the way cool board, and dont worry about popping up it took me aaaaages to get to my feet, so just get out there and have fun regardless of how much progress you feel like your making :D

Everything you heard about greyhounds is true, Libby. They don't need a whole heep of exercise, other than a good walk twice daily, and maybe a good run once or twice a week. For a large dog, they make great apartment dogs. They are extremely affectionate, loving, and make overall wonderful pets.

And yes, there are so many here in the US that need homes, even though racing them is legal in only 4 states.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help!

First off great looking board :D As far as your knee goes. Just as long as your not going to your knee(s) to get up you will get past that. Practice your pop-ups. There is nothing like chilling after a fun day in the water and being stoked because you feel like you did ok. :D

Your pup looks awesome. I do a lot of transports for animals. Taking them from kill shelters to rescues and forever homes. 8)
