It's better than a seal or a dolphin, I suppose.

A seal once popped up in the line up, which was very cool. There were about six of us waiting for a set and this seal just appeared about 4ft away. He looked at us all for a few minutes, then disappeared again.

Another time I went out for a dawny, but arrived while it was still too dark to surf. It was getting on for 5.30 am, and this fox appeared in the car park. It then proceded to stalk me while I went for a run round the village. Very tame and friendly too.

I think i saw a seagull once too!!

Ha ha! My ex (who is an even more keen birdwatcher than I am) used to get REALLY arsey when anyone called a gull a seagull,

"cos there are many different types of gull, and 'seagull' is just a generic term for any gull."

My argument was that technically they are all seagulls, cos they all fly at sea, but he'd get SO wound up about it! Hence I used to call them seagulls on purpose just to wind him up more!!!

I read somewhere about a guy in Oregon who told this story about a sea lion popping up right in front of him while he was surfing. It was so sudden and close the guy ran right into its' chin/throat area with his longboard. I think the sea lion was choking with spasms or something and ended up slowing dying. The guy really f'd up his board and his face/head. Woke up in the hospital. And the nose of his board was all caved in like a quarter moon.

Hmmm I think I know you Adrenaline! I remember the fox and the couple of dozen shooting stars that morning. Surf was crap but still had a good laugh! Anyway that was a bit off topic so ill get back on topic. Sea encounters eh? In between the odd seal popping up chasing me every now and again it has to be this time I went to cornwall for a holiday and the beach and shoreline was covered in these blue jellyfish.

Had to paddle out through them which was fun and neither was bailing into them :S but still awesome to see about 3 miles of beach covered in jellyfish.

I hope they were jellyfish...either that or very large sea faring leechs.

TicTac, are you serious? You paddled out through tons of jellyfish? I swear I think I would have gone to see a movie that day instead. I was stung by one once and it hurt like hell. Can't imagine doing what you did! You are wild!
