2 of my friends have died :o(

Postby .Jen. » Mon Jan 22, 2007 1:25 pm

Found out this morning that theres been a horrible car crash over here. 2 people dead and three in hospital. Then found out that three of my friends, Bruno, Dom and Darko hadnt turned up for work and nobody could get hold of them. Then found out that Brunos cousin has the same type of car that was involved in the accident.

I had everything hoped on it being a coincidence. It wasnt.

Just found out that Bruno died at the scene, Dom died in hospital and Darko is in intensive care. We dont know who the other two are yet, but as they were all together then chances are its more friends.

Dont know what to say/think about it all. Horrible horrible feeling :(

Nasty stuff. A person from my old class died in a car crash a few months back, I can imagine how you feel. Take care Jen.

Bruno and Dom were good friends but Darko is a very good friend. Apparently he's got quite serious leg injuries. His uncle is down at the hospital but nobody is allowed to see him yet. He has virtually no other friend/family over here, hes from Montenegro.

Me and Wayne have been going out for drives in the middle of the night, and we were out last night, but for some reason, even though we always do both ends of the island, we didnt go anywhere near Grouville. We were out at St Ouen when a huge hailstorm hit last night and im wondering with the winds the way they were if it headed out east and they got caught in it too.

Know for certain I wont be going out for a drive for a while, the accidents hit a bit too close to home.

There's nothing reassuring to say as its simply a tragic waste :(

Dont worry about 'not knowing what to feel'. I think thats normal. Go with whatever you feel.

And grab as much support from your friends as you can. The internet is a crappy way to try and be supportive, but *hugs* anyway.

Finally some good news!! Darko's uncle has just phoned from the hospital. Hes doing much much better and the docs are starting to bring him round from sedation. We were told a couple of hours ago that Darko had severe leg injuries, and someone else had a head injury, but its the other way round. Hes got a corking black eye obviously had a hard knock, but hes gonna be fine.

Weve also found out a bit more about the accident. Darko was sitting in the front passenger seat, and Brunos cousin was driving. Bruno, Dom and the other two were in the back. Its so hard to believe that Darko wasnt more seriously hurt considering the state of the front of the car and that there were too many people in the back.

Its weird, im so so glad that Darko is ok, but at the same time my heads still fleshin' about Bruno and Dom.

Have heard a bit more. Darko is off the sedation, and the docs have taken the ventilator away too, so hes fully awake and able to talk. My mum and dad went down to see him earlier but he was still quite dopey.

Ive got a hospital appointment tomorrow morning, and after that I've gotta go and sit with him till 3pm so that he has someone to talk to.

Also found out that Duarte, Brunos cousin (the one who was driving), was more than likely driving like a twat - the car managed to hit an 8 foot tall granite pillar out of the ground and land the other side of it. Gutless fleshin' then had the nerve to try and run away. Doesnt look like Darko was sitting in the front either, what he said doesnt tie up with what Duarte said...

Just come back from the hospital. Darkos taken a bit of a turn for the worse, keeps drifting in and out of consciousness and is really really dopey, but the swelling on his brain has started to go down and the doctors dont think theres going to be any permanent damage. Hes a very lucky bloke - no broken bones, but he is literally bruised from head to toe and has a couple of nasty gashes.

Its starting to look like he might have been the front seat passenger, hes got mega bad bruising to his legs, and the gash on his head ties in with hitting the door pillar. Guess we wont find out unless he either remembers, or the gutless little shite who was driving tells the police what happens.

Had to go to Darkos place to pick up some stuff for him (teeshirts, shorts and the like, the docs cut his clothes off and he was lying there stark bollock naked showing everyone his bits). He only had a room at the hotel he works in and he shared that with Bruno, so as soon as we walked in all we could see was Brunos things, that was quite gutting (especially the pic of his 3 year old son).

Ta muchly for all the good wishes, really is appreciated :). Yer all gonna be sick of me by the time this is all over

Darko... Good news, hes doing alot better tonight He woke up, told the nurse that he needed a pee and tried to get out of bed to go to the toilet and wasnt impressed when she brought him a bottle! Then fell asleep again, woke up a little while later and told the nurse that he had to go cos he'd be late for work and tried getting out of bed again. Silly stuff, but considering what could have happened its brilliant. The best bit was when he was still quite dopey and we were sat next to him, I was holding one hand, my mum was holding the other, and she told him that he had to get better soon cos she needed a decent coffee - he tightened his grip on our hands and grunted. My mum burst into tears

Heard from the police about Duarte (the driver) too. Theyre charging him with...

Two counts of causing death by dangerous driving (although theyre looking to upgrade the charge to manslaughter)
Driving under the influence of alcohol (this is the only charge thats been released to the media so far)
Driving at an excessive speed
Driving an overloaded car

Apparently they want to add another three charges, but we dont know what they are yet.

The police are certain that theyve figured out where everyone was sitting too. Darko was definately the front seat passenger (they know that from his injuries), Duarte was driving (xxxxx), Bruno and Dom were in the middle of the back seat with one of the English hitchers on either side of them. They didnt have to say it but its pretty obvious that they think Bruno and Dom were flung through the front of the car when it hit the pillars.

Anyway, better go to bed, got hospital duty in the morning so have to be up early-ish.
