Sounds like a torrid session Thaya  I bitten sand many a time when just going over the crest of a wave and it breaks, certainly gives a beating, but makes you all the more determined.

Chin up though, you know the next session will be epic, you'll be craving the place up :D

I managed to get out on sunday at Tynemouth, it was only 2ft but it's better than nothing. I also found out how unforgiving surfing can be. The last time I was in was Christmas and I did alright, but this time I just couldn't get to my feet, well for more than 2 seconds. It Felt like I was back to square one.

But hey loved being out in the water, even though it kicked my arse  Roll on the next session.

Then I decided that having just driven 50mins and got into my wetsuit I may as well give it a go... after all, all the blokes out back were having a blast.

I drove two and a half hours to k-bay yesterday, sat and watched it for two hours, discussed the options with some locals, then accepted (as I'd known two hours earlier) that it was death in there over the reefs, and it was time to go home.

Disappointed, but very much alive, I drove two and a half hours home.

Now, trying not to moralise or sound a smug flesher, but - Get rid of the immortality complex and realise that the ocean doesnt care and you'll drown if you go out in conditions you cant handle. Sometimes you have to walk away. Lecture over.

Give it a little while, maybe wait until its a warm spring day when its fun rather than scary, and get back in there.

And pick somewhere without a beachdump. They hurt.

Waist high clean and hollow!

(I retract all statements I made about small waves) I am really desperate here!! It's ridiculous...this is the first wave that is catchable in like 4 months!

Glad your ok thaya, sounded mega nasty!

Had a great day at New Quay, Wales on saturday. There was a great vibe in the water, everyone was chatting and sharing waves. Sets were coming up to around head height, and had a few fun waves. Still happily stoked, even though I'm in work :)

Surely if you don't wait for your shoulder to heal fully then you risk damaging it further?

Well I couldn't exactly say (whilst crying uncontrollably) "no I'm not ok, I nearly died out there, I actually can't move, i can barely see or hear you and I might just need an ambulance in a few secs as I'm blacking out" now could I? :D What would he have done (other than leg it very quickly)?????

AND... besides it was totally obvious that I wasn't ok and that I was just being polite because I didn't want to freak the guy out (especially as he was holding his poor board in two pieces and had enough to deal with).

i wish men were more perceptive :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

last week, I surfed ridiculously sucky crappy 4 footish waves, got barreled then absolutely wasted...washing machined right into a shallow sand bank, good thing is, that i have a little war wound now (something to brag about :))..then on another wave went over the falls and had my board spear me in the side...

going surfing today, but will probably be butt crowded, damn public holiday long weekends..

Got out at Runton again today, was absoloutley freezing! Hood purchase imminent me thinks

Popping up no problem most of the time again today but went to paddle out to catch some green waves but bottled it as there were some quite big sets coming through (well for me, i'm sure Dec wouldnt even consider them surfable) and the wind was howling and it was all a bit choppy and messy. Got some good pictures of the guys i was surfing with though- yey!! :D :D :D

Am nice and toastie and warm now and very sleepy. Best feeling in the world 8)

Hope it holds till tomorrow when me and Sean are off to Cayton!

PS. I think tis now time for me to invest in something more substantial than a 3/2....if you don't hear from me again its cos I've become an iceberg in the North Sea.....Sean will send his love to you all memory of me :D
