"Something" in the water off the south coast

Postby drowningbitbybit » Thu Jan 18, 2007 12:17 pm

A large container ship is sinking off Lizard Point in this storm. 75 containers listed as "Dangerous Cargo" on board, but the coastguard dont know what the cargo is yet!

Something to keep an eye on, maybe, if you're planning on a surf once this storm blows over :?

Lets hope its nothing too toxic....

"There are no communications with the lifeboat but they appear to all be on board. At the moment the lifeboat is heading north."

Or which ever way they're blown.

Hope all the crew are ok, and that there isn't anything nasty in the containers.

They've rescued all the crew members, which is a big relief.

I wonder if we'll ever find out what the cargo was.....

Four people have now died today in this storm.

My Surfboard that hangs over the shop door blew of about 20metres away, good job no one was in the way of that.

what I don't get is why this one has been so extreme... its smaller and less severe than the 3 we had before xmas.... and yet then there wasn't really anything major happening.

Maybe its becuase this has been a Due west wind whrere as the others where the usual SW ans S winds.

Two helicopters from RNAS Culdrose airlifted all the crew in the French co-ordinated rescue.

Yeah, I thought that. The charts made it look (to me, anyway) like it should be 'pretty breezey' but nothing outstanding :?

But even in town, the wind was enough to knock you off your feet. And the railway station roof next to my work collapsed which I imagine was quite exciting for those inside

Well done to the coastguards, even the french ones!

Do you know why the French wanted the Channel tunnel built so badly?
So if the Germans invade again they can be in London with their hands up a lot faster!
