Newbie heading to east coast Bali - need advice

Hi Guys
I am heading to Bali for the first time in a summer for work and have taken 10 days off and need some advice. Where would be a good place to stay on the east coast besides Sanur, my boss is staying there and I dont want to be near her!!!!! I would prefer to be able to walk out of the hotel and walk to good waves, even if it includes a boat ride. I havent been that side of the island since I was 14 (LONG time ago) as I normally bail to Lembongan or Lakeys and have no real idea of whats available and where. Initially, whilst the GF is with me for the 1st few days, would like somewhere pretty nice, then after that just looking for some comfortable digs with air con and pool. I dont need the night club scene. Thanks for your help
