Anybody surfed Padre Island?

Postby ginat » Fri Jan 05, 2007 4:48 pm

My Dad's birthday is coming up and he lives near Padre Island. My sister has been trying to get me over there for his birthday and mentioned the key word-- surfing! Love my Dad and he loves Padre Island so I think we may have a match there for a day of fun.

Anybody surfed there? I'm just a rank beginner so are there some nice beach breaks there that are suitable and how do you find 'em?

Dad won't be surfing for sure as he isn't terribly fond of the water and not that great a swimmer but he's been begging me to come out there for awhile and would be thrilled to go hang out at the beach for a couple of hours. It is in the week of MLK holiday.

Definitely Texas and a long way from me in terms of distance and money but I'd like to visit the old man and help him blow out his candles and make a wish.

I would Google the area for a surf shop. Then call them and ask about the surfing. They will give you all the info you need.

Great idea! I'll look some up today. I'm hoping the water will be a little warmer there than San Diego now but it doesn't matter to me that much. I just want to get back in the water even if I freeze.

Now, does anyone have an idea for a present for my Dad who has everything? I haven't the slightest clue. My Mom says me coming will be a present but I want to get him something cool because he is a great Dad. If anyone has gotten any great gifts lately, I'm up for suggestions! :D I'm in the $50 range right now-- funds are very low.

Get him a t-shirt that says "My Son came to visit and all he gave me was this lousy T-Shirt"
that always cracks me up when I see people wearing them
We took some nice portraits of us and framed one up and gave it to my parents for x-mas. They liked that alot.

My sister is a photo freak and has photos of every stage (second?) of her family's life. Every family event she shows up with sheets of photos and scissors in hand and asks who hasn't gotten a picture yet. Me, I run from cameras so yeah, a photo of me would probably be something rare indeed. Good idea! Maybe I'll have it taken with my dogs too as my folks get a kick out of my dogs.

I have been there once a good few years now.
Yes there is surf there and it was not too bad when I was there but the water is the usual horrid gulf muddy stuff.

Do a Google, there is a bit on info around on the area.
