Its not 16 days til "Combe" (ABORT ABORT ABORT!! STOP THAT BEFORE THOSE PEOPLE HIJACK THIS THREAD IN A TEDIOUS AND REPETITIVE MANNER!!!), so 16 days until this wind stops and we get some clean swell?

16 days before you give up on your new years resolution and start drinking the hobgoblin again?

Bummer. We've had record snowfalls in the rockies. Even had to close the highways for a week because of avalanches. I think they were saying that they had a base of 300" on one of the hills. It has been snowing for 18 days straight now in Lake Louise, at least some bit of snow every day.
Come to Canada. You'll freeze your ass off but at least we always have snow.

Oh ya, Jurg.

Yeah, everywhere on the west coast has been getting DUMPED on for such a long time...where do you usually ride?

If you say Whistler......I'll be so jelaous....

Apparently we are getting Pacific storms vs. arctic storms, due to the jetstream not wanting to move its sorry ass. But *apparently* in the next 10 to 14 days it's gonna start getting cold.

For example of the ridiculousness--today, I wore shorts and a t-shirt. After school I went and hit some hills. I kept having flashbacks of that one memorable day where you bust out a new deck you've been working on all winter and slap some new soft wheels on, and you just cruise for hours, enjoying the day.

But then I realized it's January--- :x Fun day, nonetheless, but not the way it's supposed to be.

What's this Jurg thing?

As for the Jurg thing, Tomcat, you will have to review the "How long 'til Combe" post. I will definately not be discussing that post on this forum as I like it here and prefer to stay :D

I used to ride at Lake Louise and Sunshine, both in Banff National Park. But I have switched from the board to the freeheel planks and I now go out to the backcountry and ski both up and down. The powder in the back country is deep! Beats the resorts every time. Except for the puke at the top from being completely exhausted.

Whistler is a long 16 hr drive from where I live. Great hill but very expensive. And crowded. If you ever make it out here, try Kicking Horse Resort in Golden B.C. Insanely steep, huge powder, not crowded, incredible mountain biking park in the summer on the hill. Cheap housing.

Ya. I grew up skiing. started telemark about 10 years ago. Then one of my employees turned me to the dark side and started me snowboarding. Did that for a while but turned back to the tele 2 years ago. Boarding just wasn't that exciting anymore, too many people, too long a line ups for the lift, too much cost. Wife didn't go, so I always went alone. Found tele much more exciting, interesting and the powder rocks!! And the wife will come into the backcountry with me on her x-country gear.

Sounds like my story, except less powder and backcountry (unfortunately) and I just ski, no telemark, although it looks extremely fun.

Unfortunately around here the only snow we have is man-made, and all of the "mountains" are owned by people, so there aren't any national parks or anything that are cleared and have snow on them. I absolutely love the idea, because I also do a fair amount of backpacking, so it seems pretty much like a mix of the two, plus, no lift cost, and no people. I was thinking of taking a trip one summer out to Mount Hood for a week, and then drive to the ocean (preferably warm water) for a week of surfing. Just camp the entire time, pack in all my food. So it would be 2 weeks of surfing/skiing with only the cost of a rental car and plane ticket, and maybe some park fees or something.

Of course, after those two climbers that got caught at Mount Hood, Everyone will think I'm absolutely stupid.
