Recovering from a nose dive?

Postby ceweal » Mon Dec 25, 2006 9:07 am

At the drop, when your board's nose digs into the face of the water, is there a way to recover from it? :?: :? Just want to know what you people have in your bag of tricks.

I normally recover from it at the bar with about 3 pints/schooners/bourbons/whatever I can afford.

but seriously, if the nose of my board is underwater, it's too late to recover.

you can recover some times it depends how much of the nose is under and how fst you were going. Sometimes you can lean back putting all your weight on the back of the board. This will help to lift the nose out. But if you are going to fast or the drop was too steep then theres nothing you can do but take the hit then paddle back out again

A sharp turn helps out while placing presure on the back of the board. Try taking off a littel more sideways on the wave. You can also swoop your arm paddel in a wide motion to turn the board sideways.

all depends, if your goin fast and you dig the nose its unlikely youll have time to react, at slower speeds its possible tho if your centre of gravity is low and you are on your balance. The one and only time ive ridden a longboard i completely submarined the whole board nose first on my first wave, but the board kept going underwater and eventually came back up to the surface.
