Learning to play the guitar

Postby Bwgan » Thu Dec 21, 2006 6:17 pm

Now then,

I've picked up a 2nd hand guitar and over the last few weeks I've been trying to teach myself. fu*ck me, I've heard of slow learning curves, but this is just a horizontal line!!!! I'm learning chords to play mul of kintyre, how the flesh does that go. At the moment it sounds a little like this:

Gring...........................gring.................gring gring............gring......gring

Need someone to point me in the direction of the pic of destiny!!!!

Does anyone know any easy to play tabs to well known songs?

Cheers

there are lots and lots of free tab sites on the net just go to google put in free tab and then the song u want to lean and see if you can do it. it is not easy to lean too play gutair just do not give up. play as much as u can and buy your self a chord book and lean the easy main chords i.e start with G A D C E as most songs are just made up of these chords. hope this helps if u need anything just yell

ya, it takes some patience, and a lot of practice, but hang in there, it's worth it. I agree with Essex, learn the basic chords, practice them so you know them inside and out, learn to move from each chord to all the others. Start learning some easy songs, presto! You've learned the guitar. :D
Okay so maybe it isn't quite that easy, but I have taught a few people how to start out and that is how I have done it and it has worked every time.
Here are some helpful (at least I thought so) webpages that you can throw into your favorites list and start perusing them at your pleasure.

www.chordguide.com
www.chordbook.com
www.guitarnoise.com awesome site! hundreds of FREE lessons
www.911tabs.com tab search engine, millions of tabs

If you like older tunes, try out some of the Beatles first songs. They are fun, catchy, everyone has heard them, and you can usually find easy versions of them. Or try some Johnny Cash. Everybody loves Johnny.
Or try Through the Glass, by Stone Sour. Fairly easy, catchy, popular, chicks will love it.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I've got three books and was just wondering if anyone had a quick little tune I could learn just to cheers me up. My mate taught me a quick little tune, but I've played it to death. Been on the net, but they all seem to OTT for now.

Guess its back to gring......................gring.........gring.....gring.......................................gring......gring

I've got an accoustic guitar. I'm into anything and everything, Nirvana, Peral Jam, Jack Johnson, chili peppers etc. Currenty trying to learn Bob Marley 'Could You be loved' and 4non blondes 'whats up', but its gring...................................gring..............gring etc.
Any help would be great, i totally know its practice practice practice, but its just to save me from the boredom and monotony of gring............gring............gring...........gring,

As everyone else has said, start with easy songs with basic chords, and then I'd say work into power chords (very easy) which sets up the stage for barre chords, and then go to www.worldguitar.com and play those riffs. They have the clip with it, so its nice to hear, play, hear, play, etc till you get it.

Everyone I talk to who is just learning always says "how do you change chords so fast?" Well I guess I do change chords fast, but I also think you need to figure out some filler between the chords. Hard to explain, but different songs you can do random strums, etc. while you are trying to switch chords.

Dangit, now I've gotta play Knockin' on heavens door (Gn'R style)

Its not the accuracy that I am doubting, its what the hell do you do with it. The tabs in my book have black dots where you have to place your fingers, but this has numbers???
