hey all

ive been going out recently, and san diego has been having some big swells, but i was wonderin, i can't get past the whitewater breaking here easily. in fact i have a lot of problems gettin past it. i go out there and spend most of my time tryin to paddle past it. is there any tips that could help me. if someone could give me tips that would be greatly appreciated. also if anyone in san diego could tell me where the places that don't have too much whitewater to get past are, even if the swells arent really that big. i just wanna surf. they dont have to be perfect.

appreciate it

Ya the swells have been rough lately not clean at all most exposed beach breaks are washed out and very tricky to get out in. Try heading for reef surf you can usually paddle around the waves. If not its duckdiving all the way Those big breakers have too much power to effectivelly turtle (it can be done but its not exacly great)

You are not alone though the swells have been not what we expected mostly blown out and mushy leaving stormy rough surf which makes it that much hader to paddle out.

Not really so bad the best sets are breaking over the reefs at the moment the beach break is just pounding . But If you never surfed reef before you may want to wait for a more mellow day to do it  - You will get your chance the surf is going to remain fairly big but it should calm down a lot that is until friday which looks to be picking up again 8)
