How tall are you? and how tall is your board?

The shortboard only forum.

Postby GowerCharger » Fri May 05, 2006 6:29 pm

im 6'3 and for years i rode a 6'3 thruster which was paper thin, always did ok in decent surf but it was always hard hard work keeping the speed up, and anything small or weak and i was pushing water. Knew i could do with something bigger (im 220lbs so way to heavy for that board really) but couldnt afford it.

Eventually saved up and had a custom board made, just the way i wanted. - 6'10 thruster, basically scaled up in every direction, 20 3/4' wide and 2 3/4' thick. The extra thickness provides a lot more buoyancy for my fat ass and i can plane without working too hard through sections which previously would have sunk me. Also goes well in small surf.

Ive never seen a board like it on a rack and the guy who shaped it was also curious to see how it went as hes never made one that shape/size, but id recommend it to anyone who thinks they got too heavy for their shortboard but cant bear the slow turning of a funboard/minimal.

ummm I ride a lot of stuff have about 15 boards alltogether (excluding longboards...which aren't counted as boards..more like boats...)

Shortest I ride is a 5'9 but only when it is powerfull enough. I am usually on a 6'0 or 5'11.

I am 5'11 tall and weigh 65kgs.

6'3" pintail? Is it a single fin? A little odd, do you have pictures?

Seems on modern boards they are only using pintails on guns

I might be wrong on this but i'm sure I read somewhere that Russ Winter only rides pintails (he's the most famous UK pro surfer around at the mo)

im 6.1 and ride a 7'4 thruster. Will be dropping down to a 6'8 or 6'10 had a go on loads of boards and figured those sizes would be ideal for me.
