-Lake surfing is it real??

rite... i went to the south of France 2 years ago on a Mountain Sports Trip and we went to this lake random and it wos about 100metres wide ... u cud c the other side.... and ther wos this guy who had a long board and he paddled and then jumped up on his board and then jumped off again... paddled a bit more then jumped up again and just carried on doing that for about 1 hour... does anyone no why?! it totally confused me... ther was no waves at all.

Lake Erie is next to Lake Ontario i think, went ice skating on it years ago !
