Hey try Southbourne Beach also check out http://www.bournemouth-surfing.co.uk that will give you the forecast. I bodyboard and the waves are more suited for us spongers but you can get a good wave! check the site first to avoid dissapointment though!

Are there surf hire shops in Bournemouth?

I'm in Portsmouth so getting to places like Croyde/ Woolacombe is a pain (4 1/2 hours travelling on three different trains!) but Bournemouth is much easier to get to.

I've only just started learning, but I'd like to be able to get some more practice in!

Bournemouth looks pretty bad, to be honest. I look on the web cam occaaionally and it doesn't look that good but it's the closest thing to me in Hampshire. Anybody got any ideas or tips for Surfing on the South Coast ?
