Surf Trip

Postby ^*^BATMAN^*^ » Wed Nov 08, 2006 9:18 pm

I appologise if this topic has been brought up before, but please help me if you can.

Well my brother has been great lake surfing for about a year and change now. Last week I was in Florida to watch the Florida Ironman/sign up for next year. Well me and my brother rented some boards and got a solid 5 hours of surfing in, the waves got bigger as the day got on, up to about 4-5ft. It was one of the most fun filled days I have had in years. We are not fantastic surfers(I stood up a few times, big for me), my brother is alot better then me, though I would say he is still begginer-moderatly skilled.

Now onto my question. I am in the Army, and have a few weeks off over christmas. I was thinking that for my brothers christmas present I might help to finance a trip for me and him to go surfing somewhere. I am looking at about the $1000cdn ish per for a week or more trip. Warmer is better, and the more english(language, my brother is fluent in french as well, and mine is dicey at best) the better. Looking for a place to chillout, and have some solid days of surfing. I dont know if maby hitting up a surfing school type resort would be better, so we can get proper instruction...

Please help a lonley soldier from Canada....

Again, thanks for any help you can provide me with, if I am out of my lane on this, my bad.

Was looking at Costa Rica but it is a little more pricey then I want. Like upwards of 1500 per person just for the flight to San Jose.

Does puerto rico have good surfing in december?

I am in CFB Borden right now, though I have a transfer in the works to get back to the infantry, so if i get where I asked. I will be in Edmonton soon.

Ok, so what do you guys think of PR? I have found some cheap flights there that might make it a worthwhile vacation.

From what I have read it is like north shore in hawaii...for consitency, and clean surf.

What is it like in the country, what are the locals like? Where would be best for a begginer to go?

Encuentro near Cabarete in the Dominican Republic would be great for you too. Waves all year long but especially in wintertime terrific. The spot is really relaxed, not crowded and nice people. Cabarete is a great town. Mostly surfers and kitesurfers there, a googd nightlife, lots of things to do and a good atmosphere.

I think flying from Canada can be pretty cheap here (fly if possible to Puerto Plata). We have a couple of Canadian guys here at the moment, so if you want me to check out, let me know.
