how does that make me a wannabe "pro"??

all it makes me is someone who saw a blank board as a blank board.. so i painted. oh snap. what is graffiti art? or any kind of art for that matter? does it all mean that we have something to prove? is that waht youre saying?

I like doing the actual art work because it gives the board some character. Otherwise it's just another board, completely identical to thousands of others. I like resin swirls, pinlines, tints, cloth inlays, anything. It's all about creativity. Any single resin swirl you look at will never be the same, unless you cheat like some are doing and pre design them on a computer but thats BS.

And it's not like pro's generally have that intricate designs. They are generally all the typical surfboard in the eyes of the youth. 6 something shortboard, 3 fins, white, with some over popularized logos slapped on it. They break like 5 a week, so they generally don't have that much of a signature board. Maybe a signature shape, but not an actual board.

Although it seems Bruce Irons gets the same airbrush on everyboard.

Do whatever makes you happy, if you like your board plain, thats great, if you like it colourful thats also great.

I think saying that unless your a real good surfer you shouldnt have artwork on your board cos other people might think your a kook is ....well.....kookish.

Why on earth do you give a crap what anyone else is thinking of your surfing? As long as your showing other surfers respect and having fun i dont even see where board colour comes into it!

For me, because i'm a poor student, when i buy a board its pretty much a lifetime thing, certainly a long term thing....so i want to love whatever i buy.

I'm with you on this one tomcat, i love doing stuff with my boards. But at the same time a plain white board with nothing on it at all does make it look like you mean buiness, just like when tommy curren ditched his sponser was ocean pacific many years ago and i think went out and won his very next contest on an unmarked board!

Something like this!

I go for a bit of colour, that way my photographer (the missus) has a chance of photographing the right person. Had a real good shesh at Northcott, Nr Bude, ripping every wave, and the whole time she was filming some other dude. Changed to colour after that.

.." what .. and you bought the old .. " i thought it was you darling " routine .. you sure the dude wasnt packing a heavier leash than you ?

back to subject ...

Plain or painted matters not ..i wanna see art or graff burners on a board purely because i have a love for the art form .
I wanna see a plain board purely because i have a love of sculpted art and apreciation for someone elses hard work.
