Postby bluesnowcone » Tue Aug 15, 2006 6:39 pm

if i got all the mesurments, and front, back, side and diagonal veiws of a longboard fin, is it possible to reshape a bigger fin ( iv got one of the bic plactic fins, so thers no fiberglass, just solid plastic) using glass paper and files ect ect.

im a bit of a cheap skate, well im a 14yr old kid with very little cash

plz dont just tick a box, can u say y it wud be a bad or a good idea

reshaping it......bigger??

Look around on swaylocks about fin making from scratch. I think you'd probably have better luck. Going smaller isnt a big deal though, just make sure to re-adjust the foil.

it looks ruffer in the photo that it actualy is, i couldnt get the inside edge a smooth curve, but i did my best, and for 2 hours work by a 14 year old, i think its quite good, and its as strong as it was befor i cut it, because i cut the most off the thickest part.

Good effort though. I'd try and thin out the trailing edge on the middle section a bit more though so the water flows off smoother. You might find it produces abit too much lift and hence drag.

hahaha, that kinda sucks when something doesn't work that you poured your blood and sweat into

But I'm sure it was a good learning experience, don't give up on it.

Should we get him talking to Chipfish?

Oh you can do it.

But you should spend a lot of time searching the archives on http://www.swaylocks.com/

I think if you follow KS's idea the fin wood at least be usable. It might not do what ever it was you were wanting it to do, but at least you wood have a back up fin.

You didn't really try it out without any foil on the trailing edge did you?
