Surfboard and winter

Postby lbi4fun » Sun Nov 05, 2006 1:39 pm

Hello all, I am new to the board and have a question:

Last season I stored the boards under the house at the beach which is just an enclosed area around the pilings and is not heated, this is NJ shore and it does get to below freezing during the winter. I am thinking about doing that again this year but now wondering if that is a good idea or should I store them inside the house? Appreciate the comments and any help.

I keep my board in a summerhouse, or fancy garden shed. here in wiltshire it does get below freezing occasionally, but nothing worse than -5C. seeing as th shed isnt heated, i presume it gets this cold, if not colder and mine are fine. i would keep them in a board bag/sock though.

Have you tried buying a wall rack and just putting them on that?

I have a whole room for mine. Most used ones go on the walls and the rest are lined up in a long stand up rack. No worries about de-waxing because its in a cool(ish) room.

Heat is definately worse for boards.

Some boards will actually explode, because the air inside will expand and the glass won't let it out.

Others will delam.

Neither are pretty, I've never seen cold do anything to boards.

You don't want to store your boards over Winter. Over here its the best time to surf, and even if your not in the water its just nice to be able to see your sticks, it reminds you of those epic days you've had on them.
