Going to....well we're not sure....

Postby MyanRellick » Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:14 pm

Before the holidays and junk, we're leaving Thursday and coming back friday night maybe saturday morning for one day of surf. We're leaving from Atlanta. We're hoping for somewhere KINDA warm and within 5 hours or so. We're looking at Tybee Island, and I was reading about Navarre Beach. Anyone with any suggestions. This is going to be kinda a spontaneous trip deal, so we're open to somewhere different! :D

Apparently Georgia waves aren't that great. Never bothered to surf there though.

Although Tybee Island was a stop on the east coast road trip that surf mag put out like a year ago. But that was for hurricane chasing.

I'd say go as close to Flordia as you can, or as close to Hatteras as you can.

Where is Hatteras...?

I've been to Tybee. It seems real hit or miss though.

I hope I can convince my friend to go to Navarre Beach.

North Carolina. 70 miles of beach to drive on, which translates to "it's always going off somewhere" (4wd really is a big help)

NC might be a bit much to drive to and from, but it's something we'll check out in the spring for sure.

Well, if you're gonna stick with surfing, then get a wetsuit. If you're not surfing during the winter then you're missing out!

Yeah, I guess so. It's kinda chicken before the egg without a board yet, though?

oh yeah....

I hear ya on the landlocked. Did you say you're in Atlanta?

Seems with such a big city they'd have a surfing club, then you will have buds to surf with and grab rides.

I got a couple friends with two or three boards. I didn't think to look for a club, that's a good idea.
I actually live in Columbus 1.5 hour south, but I'm from the ATL area and thats where friends and family are at. I think I'm gonna head up there early before we take off to the coast. We actually have a couple of skate/surf shops, so I can look for a wet suit. Any advice on the wet suit purchase?

Well, probably would say buy one at the beach. We've got some "surf shops" which are pretty much skate shops with surf clothing and a board or two. Sometimes a wetsuit.

But at the beach, people buy them much more frequently, so they will have newer stuff.

Look around on here for some ideas of what kinda suit you need.
