What's it cost in the UK?

Postby waterlogged » Wed Oct 25, 2006 4:42 pm

We're looking to work with a British distributor to get some of our classic surf apparel into the market. What are UK folks typically paying for surf T's and hoodies?

I'm seeing 20 pounds for Ts and around 50 for hoodies on a few sites, but is that typical retail? Seems really pricey given the exchange rate.

Any feedback is appreciated. I'd be happy to post some of the brands/logos if folks are interested.

Aloha,

Most 'undeground' stuff goes for 10£ a T and 20-30£ for a hoodie.

the prices you've seen are the usual fasion crap... mind you you'll proberly get alright sales from the nobbers who would pay that much, what you won't get is any respect.

Thanks for the feedback. That's about comparable with US prices - for the non-Hurley/Volcom/et. stuff.

It's authentic '60s logo stuff. Not the fashion crap.

We won't sell it direct. The distributor will get it out to surf shops in the UK. We want it to be reasonably priced, but obviously we don't control what the shops do.

If we can do decent volume it means a better deal for the UK surfer than buying a couple Ts from my site and having to pay shipping and duty charges.

Deffo worth getting into Online stores like the one here or MagicSeaWeed, extremepie.com etc...

So ypu'll remain indepentant (as such) but are you funding/supporting anything. Thats what gets me to open my walet for clothes. For example - www.kernowbodyboarding.co.uk or aloike peeps who are putting the money they make into the sports community and getting new footage for flicks, or creating more community. Obiviously they want to and do make some on the side too, but who doesn't want that!

In the past we've made donations to Dave Sweet, the "Father of Foam", to help pay for his medical expenses (he had a stroke last year) based on sales of his logo Ts from our site.

We support SurfRider and SurfAid. We're working on a specific line of retro themed clothing that will have a set % of each item's sales price go to a surf-related charity. Probably will launch that in '07.

Meanwhile I'll check out a couple of the places you've mentioned. I agree that it's easier to support someone who gives back to the surf community. Thanks for the info!

lastwave.com

We do ship to the UK, and the surfers there seem very stoked with what we have. But we'd like to get into the surf shops as well.

Let me know what you think.

im thinking of getting the classic long or short sleeve t-shirt.
i would of gotten the old guys rule sticker but 2$ a sticker????? im sorry but i find that pretty expensive. My friend made stickers, 25$ for 250, thats 10 cents a sticker.
i would put the sticker prices down to 0.50$ or give a free sticker when you buy a shirt or anything over 15$

We pay more than 0.50$ a sticker to our vendors to get them, except of course our own which we have produced and aren't paying mark up on. Even so, they cost us a lot more than 10 cents, to get a couple thousand!

We typically put in a sticker (LWO) with most orders, and if someone is an obvious fan of one of the old brands - say they order 3 Bing t-shirts, we'll throw in a Bing sticker - we try to keep them stoked about that brand.

But you're right, gdude, we should put something on the site about that.

The only time we don't do stickers is when it tips the postage over to the next increment. Sometimes just a couple stickers can add enough to bump you into the next category, which is usually about a two dollar jump. Add a couple more for cost of the stickers and yer out 3-4 bucks just trying to be nice. We're cool guys, but not that cool.

Nice website. Cool gear. Love some of the brands. Love the classic looks. Will have to make an order to pick up in Santa Cruz. Sweet! Oh, and I don't think $2 is too much for a sticker. For anything like that (ex. snowbaording, skateboarding, any kinda boarding) where I live it will set you back $4.95 and up. And look at it this way, I see people who spend $100's on neon lights, body kits, etc for their vehicles and they look horrible for it. For only $2 you can adorn your car and make it look sweet? SCORE!

I've been bugging my biz partner on the ringers. They're coming! (got a couple faves myself)

We ship to most of Europe, US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia & NZ. We say allow two weeks on the website but it usually doesn't take that long.

We send normally via US Global Priority Mail.
Order Total Regular International
up to $30 $4.50 $12.00
$30.01-$50 $6.00 $16.00
$50.01-$75 $7.50 $20.00
$75.01-$100 $9.00 $24.00
$100.01-$1000 $11.00 $28.00

Hope this helps. :D
