Ive had 2 hernia operations you will be lucky if you are back in the water in under a month likely 6 or so weeks depending just take it real easy though.

Bit of bummer really, hope you heal up quick and get back to some good surfing :D

Join the hernia club mate.
I was told by my doctor that i'd be able to start sports as soon as i felt up to it after my operation as the patch they sew into your muscle is as strong if not stronger than the surrounding muscle. What you need to remember though is that you will have where they cut you open a potential for infection until it heals which will be a couple of weeks. Until then you would be very unwise to go in the sea and risk serious infection.
Hope you enjoy the prickly sensation your gonna get after the op!

Good luck.

Good luck buddy. I hope that you feel better and get back into the waves soon. Salt water supposedly clenses wounds, though...I've got to work on weekends for the next two weeks, so no surfing for those weekends... So I can sympathize.

Salt water may clense wounds but not all the bad bacteria that it contains.
