Quiksilver Surfboards???

Postby scuba steve » Fri Oct 20, 2006 8:42 am

I am confused :?

Do Quikisilver actually make surfboards? I'm pretty sure they do but if you search around the internet its nearly impossible to find any. I'm guessing surfboard maufacture just isn't a huge part of their company.
Also, who shapes their surfboard line and why are there not more of them. Do they shape for any pros?

Can anyone shed some light on these questions?

Cheers

I'm assuming Quiksilver outsources their boardmaking to shapers, then whack their product logo all over it.

Billabong do this. They get prominant shapers like JS, D'arcy and some others to shape the boards, then they outsource the blank to be glassed, then slap their logo on it.

Quicksilver dont personally shape surfboards, but they have in the past put their logo onto some shapers boards-I have a 6'5 wayne lynch quikstix thruster which is a little small for me so will be selling when I can be bothered to put it on ebay!

So would they take some of the profits from those shapers?

Quiksilver have a shaping team which consists of 7 pro shapers - Phil Grace, Mark Richards, Simon Anderson, Brett Warner, Mark Phipps, Darren Handley and Wayne Lynch. They usually shape really high performance shortboards for surfers who can really rip.
If you google their names you can find each shapers main website where they can shape boards for you. Also you can find some 'Quiksilver Boards' shaped by these guys on http://www.surfedout.com/newsurfboardsnew.asp

But like its been said above, Surf companies like Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Billabong...etc will give jobs to pro shapers to make a few boards with their brand logo on it.

Im pretty sure that these big surf companies would pay the shapers to make boards with their logos on them and not take any of the shapers profit. Its just like advertising. Thats what I would think any way

you can get a free dvd from quiksilver featuring all their shapers surfing and talking in detail about the range of boards they offer, and the pros who ride on their team, well worth getting. most offer a full range of boards from thrusters based on their pros boards up to big guy boards, minimals and even a plank (and the roxy girls boards "available in pink and blue").

cant remember the website address for teh free dvd but im sure you can find it with a search its called "shapers vol.1"

Good advertising I'd've thought both ways round.

Quiksilver get the 'credibility' of producing proper surfboards from respected shapers.

The shapers get their sticks in magazines with the 'media friendly' surf companies.

Everybody's happy :D

Although I bet a lot of these high performance boards are bought by wannabe's who dont know any better but know the name quiksilver, and then end up on here complaining they cant catch waves! :bang:

Nope. Al Merrick will only put the quiksilver logo on a board if one of his surfers is sponsored by Quiksilver. Just like all the other shapers.

al merrick shapes for kelly, and kelly is sponsored by quiksilver, that might be why your confused, but if you look at kelly boards they still have the al merrick logo where the board makers logo would normally go, and quiks logo near the nose. quiksilver boards have a square with the quiksilver logo where the makers logo would be.
