Extra Surfing Tips

Postby tomcat360 » Mon Oct 16, 2006 3:49 pm

As I was getting my wetsuit off yesterday after a fun session, I was thinking about all the little things I've picked up along the way to make my surfing more comfortable, fun, and practical. I was thinking it'd be nice for the newbies to have a place to figure all the little stuff out in the beginning.

So please add on.

1.) Use a cheap paint brush to get the sand off your feet before getting back in the car.

2.) Don't go body surfing with your wetsuit top down, unless you're trying to go skinny dippin'!(found that out this weekend) :D

Pants while sponging

Postby fng » Mon Oct 16, 2006 4:05 pm

Yest but have you been pantsed while sponging?
Got rag-dolled in overheads at Nags Head a couple of years ago in front of I think, Emily, SarahB and her boyfriend.
The leash on my arm didn't do a very good job of keeping the shorts on.
Had to yell at em to get me a towel.
Even the guards lost it laughing so hard....

Were you south of Rudy this weekend?

I just fill a 2L bottle with water to take with me and use that to rinse off my feet before i get changed or get in the car if im driving home to change. Also comes in handy for a drink on the way back.

Those of you who take water with you.... Put it in the windscrean of your vechicle. it'll warm up to shower temperature and is perfect to rince yourself down post surf.

Stops all the salt cake up your hair and eyes and washes away some of the piss smell. Not to mention as the winter approahces its a blessing over winter. Give it a head start by filling it up with hot water from the tap and keeping it warm in the window while your out surfing.

As for the whole sand thing.... Get a box! change in the box and all your kit stays sand free.

In summer it doesn't matter if the water is col.

In winter I just fill the bottles with straight hot water from the tap. By the time I am done it's just right.

Yeah but nobody else is gonna borrow your suit after you let it be known that you baptized it :D :D :D :D :D

As for loosing the shorts, it was funny. My wife just rolled her eyes.
She knows I like my "nekkid time".

put plasitc bags on your feet to put a wetsuit on - helps them slide into the wetsuit easier.

Or just leave your socks on when putting it on as this has roughly the same effect and you dont look like such a loon putting tesco carrier bags on your feet whilst your working parts flap in the wind cos your towels fallen down again

.....and if you attempt to walk around with the bags on your feet, the loss of traction that helped you get the wetsuit on WILL cause you to fall over.

I heard to warm up water and wrap it in a towel to make it cozy. I may try it soon.

Don't get soap and wax mixed up.

Unless you are waxing up your friend's board. Then its a good idea!
