Brisbane Newbie

Postby Scott Sucks » Sun Oct 15, 2006 9:53 am

I don't really know if I should post this in Surfing lessons or here... so feel free to move it mods.

Anyway, I'm 23 and I bought a 7'6 mini-mal about 6 months ago, but due to living in Brisbane have not had much of a chance to get comfortable using it. I plan to change this over summer and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to learn to surf in QLD? I used to go to Coolangatta a fair bit, but the crowds there are massive and I kept getting in the way of the good surfers. I've been to Burleigh a bit over the past couple of weeks... but haven't been very impressed at all. I haven't tried the sunshine coast yet. Anyway, can anyone recommend a place for a newbie to learn?

Also, I am currently surfing alone, which I feel is really holding me back. If there is anyone in the Brisbane area that is in a similar postion to me and would like someone to learn to surf with, send me a PM and we might be able to organise something.

Thanks guys!

Try the whole gold coast? There is like a million waves breaking every second there! It might be worth a drive around.

Both Coolangatta and Burleigh are on the gold coast :!: I was asking for breaks that are beginner friendly :!: So thanks for your helpful reply

:nopity:

Friendly? hmm, I don't know what you class as friendly, but try some surf schools down there. They must surf a few easy going breaks..

Yo scott I am going to be working up in Brisvegas for 8 weeks and I shall be surfing most weekends. I surfed a most of the sunshine coast last year and the best spot I found was Dicky Beach nr Cloundra.
As for the Gold Coast I hear the spit is good I was up scoping out the breaks before I start work  Palm beach looks good as does Burleigh north and south of the headland. But as ever it all depends on the wind and swell. Just keep at it !!
