oooh finally the wind has changed direction a bit. I got a sweet 8ft+ session in at a protected headland. Few dings on the reef, but loads of really heaving barrels! My first surf in like 3 weeks..argh..

Hmmm, not as good as hoped today. I was down on the south coast. The wind had a bit too much southerly in it and didnt drop as quickly as I'd hoped, so it was all a bit wind blown and close period. :?

On the plus side, I got a nice early morning session in, a long sleep in the van, followed by a sunny afternoon session - even though it was mostly wind blown chop by then

Still, not a bad day, just not a classic :D

I almost came to boscombe today - its not so badly affected by the tides as round the other side of the isle of wight. But I wanted to escape the crowds, so I was out near wittering - I knew the spot'd be a bit open, but was hoping the wind'd drop in time... but it didnt

I got to see lots of kitesurfers though, and they seemed to be having more fun than the surfers today!

I surfed Boscombe today - not near the pier. It looked very busy at the pier when we finished.

Only about 1-2ft and the occaisional 3ft (im rubbish at sizing btw and tend to underestermate but im talking face size here) and clean. Went between 7am and 10am and no wind at all, lovely and sunny and only 2 of us there. Perfect for a learner like me!
Managed to kinda get out the knee surfing habit I have developed thanks to a friend who took the time out to help me along - Cheers Matt! :D

Are you all sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. It all began thursday evening. Me and a couple of mates got together, chilled out, chatted, the usual. It was pitch black, and Mate#1 checked the swell charts to see that the swell was perfect for the nearby coast. "Damn, of all the luck. As soon as there's swell, it's pitch black!"
We all lamented the unfairness of the situation. Anyway, there was 30 mins till 'Scrubs' began, so Mate#1 suggested we go and check out the nearest surf spot, just for a look. Well, it was high tide, but you could still make out the swell. And looking at it, one of us commented that, with the street lights, you could just about see, even with the cloud. Mate#1 sighed, "Shame, in about 6 hours this'll be fireing nicely."
"Well, why don't we come back in 6 hours?" I joked...

*FIVE HOURS LATER*

If either of my mates had said "You're not being serious about going surfing in the middle of the night?", it wouldn't have happened. But as it was, me and 2 mates pulled up at our surf spot at 1am. After a quick scouting mission, we came back, suited up and headed out.

It was a beautiful point break, with a reef throwing up decent sized long waves, that went along the cliff face. It was rocky as hell, and if I'd seen it in day light, I doubt I would have surfed it. It was shallow and rocky... and the best surf of my life. Mate#2 was too cautious (or intelligent) to come out, but me and Mate#1 had an incredible sesion! The sets were about shoulder to head height, and would take you as far as you want. However, angled take offs were essential, to avoid rocky outcrops.

It really was incredible! We were straining to see the waves with the street lights, and it was sometimes difficult to see whether you were looking at a small wave close-up or a big wave further away! Hence a lot of frantic paddling and wipeouts.

Caught some beautiful waves though, was wooping like a kid in a candy store. Wave of the night was when me and Mate#1 caught a party wave and rode it for ages. Priceless! Best sesion of my life!

Dawn surf? pfft, thats for wimps. Real men surf by night.... 8)

And if you read all that, cheers!

what a cracking session at crantock i had today head high on sets with offshore winds, almost got barrled as well, i could see the wave was gonna close out just in front of me so i just tucked in, in the hope that i would make the section and get shacked, but it just closed out in front of me but i was in there long enough to see down the tube :D

its only a matter of time now before i get barrled

Spent a coupla hours at Aberdyfi on Saturday - not great waves as it was fairly messy but hey i'm still learning and it's good just to practice popping up (and wiping out!). Def getting quicker at popping up, not sure about the style/technique tho!

OMG. This has been the best surf in Phuket, bar-non! It was crazy. 6-8ft offshore, and because the tide was soo low on one litte beach break, it hollowed out like Pipe! I couldn't believe it. It was like stand up barrels! And I had it to myself!

I should've been with Surferdude_Scarboro that night but chickened out cos I haven't been surfing for months - GRRRRR!!!!!

Incidentally, S_S - do you reckon it'll be worth it tomorrow? SecretSpot seems to think so.....

But I have wind-phobia now (after I nearly flew to Norfolk as I staggered down the cliff at Cayton with my mini-mal) and I'm terrified of not being able to get to the sea with my board in the wind!! I think it'll be about 15mph - is that strong?!

PS - I know I sound like a wimp. But I'm not. Honest.

surfed today, right after a northeaster (2nd best to hurricanes, sometimes better). However, I should have waited one more day, I was off on my prediction. And by I mean I was off, I mean that NOAA sucks. A lot.

They said 5 to 10 ENE, it was 25-30 NE......

So it was blown out, I surfed like crap. Comes in second to last place in all my surfing experiences. I think I got like 3 waves.....and all that was was a bottom turn and a pump and a close out.
