Wetsuit wear

Postby scpodog » Fri Sep 29, 2006 6:24 pm

:? This might be a lame and obvious question, but what do most surfers wear underneath wetsuits? boardshorts? underwear? nothing? I have been wearing boardshorts, but they bunch in odd and uncomfortable places.

I wrap a towel around me, and strip down to bare a-- out in the parking lot usually, and do a funky "put the wetsuit on, without hanging anything out" dance, but to be honest, probably a little too honest, sometimes the wetsuit tightens up and hurts the old package, so I have been thinking about wearing a speedo underneathe for support. I have worn board shorts under my wetsuit tons of times, but between the wetsuit and the boardshorts, I usually ends up with sore balls.

if you're a guy...as far as i know, you wear nothing (that is, if it's your own suit). otherwise, you would wanna wear something to keep your body from being in contact with the rented suit (because in which case, you have no clue whose pee is in there).

you could try wearing just boardshorts and a rashguard, seeing that you're in santa cruz. can't be too cold, can it? they do it here in LA beaches.

I wear the speedos that look like bike shorts as well as a rash guard. It makes it easier to change and other parts don't get crushed.

I personally wear boardies..... bunching in places doesn't really affect me.... My cousin wears swimming trunks... the hotpants type ones... you know what I mean, and my other cousin wears nothing.... I guess it's a case of wear what you're comfortable wearing!

Nadda.

Cj - dunno if you've tried this but to save juggling a bout witha towle round your waist just leave your t-shirt/hoodie on and that covers most things while you get the legs on :p

surely wearing lycra shorts or nothing, as a guy, underneath a wetsuit would be more comfortable than having a bikini string up your rear end?

birthday suit, and instead of the towel/hoodie changing thing, just get a seat cover for your car and drive home in your suit, then you can get changed at your leisure in a warm house.

I got a van for that so I don't have to drive home sitting in moist piss.

I wear a bikini or swimsuit under my wetsuit because Im a newbie and thought thats what everyone did! :D

I drove home once with my wetsuit around my waist but didnt cover the seat - it took a while to dry so my car smelt of damp for about 2 weeks afterwards.

I'll carry on wearing something under my suit tho cos its a winter suit and about a size too small so it takes me ages and lots of thrashing about to get in and out of it - its a warm up in itself

....and before you say, no i dont need to buy another suit - I will loose the extra dress size damn it!!

I wear nothing under my winter suit for temps < 50°F (5/4/mm).

I wear a rashie under my other suit (3/2mm) because of the crappy stitching in the neck area.

I wear boardshorts and a rashguard. That way, I can just peel off the wetsuit, throw on a sweatshirt and go drive home without trying to dry off/get the sand off while getting pants or regular shorts on out in the cold.

After taking a rail to the balls while first learning to surf, I have always worn speedos under my board shorts, and wet suit. I like to keep them contained a little, and I can take the wet suit off anywhere without getting arrested for indecent exposure.

hmmm...don't think your balls are supposed to be 'between' the wetsuit and the boardies...maybe that's why it's sore, cj?!
