i thought i may as well ask this on the same thread, cuz it's sorta similar, but:

Has anyone tried the new (ish) IUS coil "merina"? (not the old IUD ones) If you have, what are the side effects like? Just wondering about it...

Apparently it can stop your periods altogether, or make them virtually non-existent and you don't need to think about it for 5 years.

sounds like bliss to me.

Used tampons look like a little white mouse that someone stepped on.

Shame the injection didnt work for you, didnt for me cos I would just be dropping of to sleep and realise I hadnt had an injection for 6 months or so! when it should be every three
I moved over to the Implanon which keeps working for 3 years, it is a different hormone to the injection but stops periods completely for some/most women so that may work for you.

I asked a few friends and my doctor about the IUS - they only had good things to say about it. There seems to be same potential risk of the usual side affects that seem to be listed with all hormone based contraceptives- it always seems to be different for everyone. If it works for 5 years could be worth a try.

What does an elephant use for a tampon? :D

On the pill thing - my wife regularly skips sugar pills quite happily. Gotta have a period every now and then now to "clean out the plumbing". And that one's usually heavier than normal. The more periods skipped the heavier it'll be.

aaaaaaaaaaactually..... thats not right :D the amount of blood in there doesnt build up over time; it'll only get to a certain level corresponding to the amount of hormones in the blood stream then stay at that level

Progesterone springs to mind as thats the one which makes the body thinks its pregnant so stops the ovaries releasing ova etc etc

btw I have no idea how I know this stuff  I blame my degree

Wasn't suggesting "the blood builds up". I know it doesn't.

But our experience has been that skipped periods result in generally stronger/heavier symptoms and flow. I don't know why, but that's been our experience.

I really don't like the words "heavy period"

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it is kind of like calling the piece of glass above a Salad Bar a "Sneeze Gaurd". Just unneccessarily un-apitizing. I have no idea if those last two words I wrote are even words.

I hope I haven't mixed up our pills!

Then I will turn into a she-male!

FWIW I never understand guys who can't talk about natural body functions without flipping out. Maybe it's having been raise in an all-female family???

Yeah, I don't really get it.

I've picked up tampons for my wife before, and the lady checking me out said something like I was great for doing that. I just figure people are going to assume I'm not getting them for me. It's just not a big deal.

Whats their really to know:
The painters turn up for 1 week every month giving the missus a lisence to bollock me over the most trivial of incidents (like comming home with a new motobike) then they leave, everything returns to normality and the cycle continues!

Ok, it's like this. I just personally don't like to know how the cow I am eating died. I don't want to hear about how the chicken got its head cut off before shove drumstick in my mouth, It makes me not want to eat the Bacon when I think of it as part of the pigs butt. See where I am going with this.

Good point CJ. whilst I respect you guys for being able to handle the most natural function of a woman as just.....well, natural functions. Please dont take the fear away from other men.

Us ladies know that if we do need to have a private chat of some sort then we just talk about periods, smears and child birth(-and stiches after childbirth if you're being stubborn!) and it clears the room  - dont take that away from us.
