Flatter than a steamrollered pancake...

Postby Malibu Barbie » Mon Jul 26, 2004 5:46 pm

Hey everyone!

Have just returned from a week in Cornwall, where I spent the whole time not searching for the perfect waves, but searching for ANY waves at all! There were none. Zip. Nada. AAAAAAARGH!!!! That was like my only opportunity to get a decent bit of surfing in for like the next 6 months (oh the pains of being 3 months too young to drive yet...) and it was FLAT!! DAMN IT! Then again, I was in Penzance, which was probably a bad move, but it wasn't my choice...blame it on the non-surfing friends...but even when I went over to Porthmeor it was still pretty small stuff and all mushy. Sob sob sob sob :( :( !!

I have had to resort to sitting in my room staring at all the surf posters that cover my walls, doors, ceiling, wardrobes...it's very sad. Tragic infact.
I'M SO ANNOYED!

Oh, and anyone happen to know why a whole bunch of surfers got off the train at Oxford station the other day? is it just me or is there no sea in or anywhere near Oxford? Or am I missing something here?! Coz if there's some new surfing thing that I don't know about going down in Oxford, someone tell me and I'm there! Afterall, it is where I live and would be a hell of a lot easier than trekking to Cornwall (on a 7 hour coach trip with the most boring people in the whole UNIVERSE - no joke!), where there AREN'T EVEN ANY DAMN WAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I am a little bitter about the whole thing as you might have guessed. I'll just go back to my room...surfless...depressed...

you have the right to be bitter. If i was land-locked year round as bad as you i would no doubt be in the mental hospital.

Check LOLA even though it tends to be for insane waves you can still get something out of it.

good ol' jersey shore 4-5 all week...sloppy windswell but cleans up on every wave i take (im blessed like that)

good luck with the wave situation

Just a shot in the dark here but any chance the bunch of surfers also lived in Oxford and were returning from a similar hunt for waves as you?

Think it's probably been flat everywhere cos we haven't had waves for over a week now. :(

You must be GUTTED!!! Just think when you're old enough to drive you'll have the freedom to go where you want and find those waves. :D

Im sorry Hannah about your wave situation in cornwall. But to be brutally honest any surf trip that has been planned to occur in the height of summer is doomed from the start. Maybe this was your only time slot available and there was nothing you could do about it.

Its not as if the weather has made up for it at all eather.. grrr.

Yeah I know the summer is a bad time to go, but I had no choice! Again, I blame it on the non-surfing friends who aren't exactly gonna be keen on going to the beach in December!! All they do is sunbathe...!! I should really go by myself but then I'd be a total loner rather than a girl who just looks like a loner coz all her friens abandon het to go shopping or something whenever there's any vaguely decent waves!

IT'S NOT FAIR! Yes, I am indeed gutted...and yeah I know Thursday was good, I was in st. Ives! My board was not with me (it's complicated!) and I would have thrown myself into the sea anyway, but thought I might look like a bit of a prat trying to stand on a wave without a board. maybe I should get into body surfing..?!

And about the Oxford surfers...yes I had thouight that maybe they ere coming back from a trip, but they looked more like they had just got off the train in search of waves (they had maps, looked lost and didn't have any kind of tan...maybe they'd been away so long they couldn't remeber where they lived and just didn't have the kind of skin that tans?! I'm still confused. Maybe they WERE lost and actually meant to end up in some surfed up place...God knows. Oxford's full of crazy people!)

Only problem with the driving thing is I'm too skint for lessons and my Dad refuses to teach me! (I think he's afraid I might kill him or something...why on earth he might think that though is beyond me...!!) I got so desperate last night that I had to calculate the exact number of days till my birthday...2 months and 7 days! Rock on 17th!

If anyone actually manages to catch any decent waves anywhere, feel free to write me a very long account of every little detail so at least I wil know that someone somewhere in the world is more stoked than me! (Though looking at my present state of mind, that's not hard)

Mind you, if you're catching waves, you won't be on here will you? Damn!

Gotta go, I have a date with a poster of Beau Young...(Well, a girl can dream, right? There's no waves so what the hell else am I supposed to do?!)

As you can see Inlet Surfer, I am very close to needing to be locked away in a mental hospital.

Catch y'all later, Hannah x

Yes, incase you hadn't guessed, that long, boring, disgruntled and still bitter & twisted e-mail WAS from me not logged in. Oops.

Just realised life is slightly better than it seemed as can console myslef with the fact that I have Beau's autograph :)

i know how frustrating it can be being land locked but there are things you can do to make it more bearable you could allways get a longboard like a skateboard but alot longer, i know not the same but you can use your imagination also indo boards are pretty fun and help with balance and you can practase tricks and stuff on them

Indo boards...now there's an idea...I've heard they're quite expensive though? i read the other thread that's on here somewhere about them and there seemed to be quite a few brave people attemting to make their own which seems like a good solution...but I'm not exactly talented at that kind of thing! Will have to look into it as you're right, I need someting to soften the blow of living where I do and make the pain of being surf-less slightly more bearable!

But hey guys, thought you might like to know that I am off to France on Friday - YAAAAAY! My best mate Chloe and her family are taking me and originally we thought we wouldn't be anywhere near the coast but turns out we are (they changed their minds or something coz Chlo refused to go unless we could surf...good on ya girl!!) So seems like I have a second chance :) :) :) :) :) Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee! i will stop moaning now. Unless French waves turn out to be equally poor...Then I would be really mad. REALLY mad.

Rightyho, I'm gonna go watch Point Break to get me all psyched up! Not that I'm not already...

Bon nuit mes amies du surf

If you're happy and you know it ride the waves, if you're happy and you know it ride the waves, if you're happy and you know it and you really wanna show it, if you're happy and you know it ride the waves! Infact, go do that anyway, even if you're happy and you don't know it, or even if you're not happy...coz then you WILL be happy! (Yes, I know, there aren't many waves as we have been discussing, but hey - artisitc license?!) Happy happy happy...happy happy happy....Sorry. Ahem.

Doubt I'll have access to a computer in france, so I hope you all get the best waves ever over the coming weeks and have a fantabulous time and lots and lots of....FUUUUUN!

Goodnight everyone, I'll be back...

Oh yeah - you know I was counting day till 17th (and driving) but could only be bothered to do the months? Well I was really bored and it turns out to be 97days. Just thought you'd like to know..! Now all I need is a driving instructor...Daaaaddyyyyy...???!

If you're happy and you know it ride the waves....etc etc.

J'ADORE TOUT LE MONDE ET TOUTS LES CHOSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x x x

Hellooooooooooooooo everyone!

Yes, I am back....I went, I saw, I surfed. Stoked!

Ok so the waves were a little small but it was better than bloody Penzance. Plus it was way hotter in France and after 2 weeks I now have something which passes for a tan - yay! Ate way too much yummy French food, chatted to way too many french guys....life is good :)
(contented sigh!)

Hey hey! And my friend's dad gave me a (theoretical) driving lesson! It's better than nothing. Clutch, break, accelerator is from left to right from the hand break right?!! Just kidding, I know that much! 80 days to go...

Hm. I bet you all really missed my random ramblings huh?!! So how's everone elses' quests for waves going??
