Postby tracy mclellan » Sat Sep 23, 2006 4:06 pm

hey! im thinking of buying my first surfboard, but im not sure what type to get. iv been surfing for about a year now and have been hiring bic surfboards, but have also heard that nsps are good for beginners/intermediate. has anyone got any advice about which one to go for or other board suggestions? xxx

Depends on how big you are and where your skill level is.

I wouldn't get a a bic or nsp if you have been surfing for a year, once you can stand up and ride the line, you are ready for a custom, but that is the thing about customs, they are customs. You get a board that you think will let you ride it to the best of your ability and still be able to progress further.

Maybe a three phase fun shape???? It really depends on you. Ask other surfers that have seen you surf, they will tell you.

Try a funboard (a board between 7 to 8 feet), they're as stable as a longboard and maneuver a bit like a shortboard. I'm about 5'6" and 153 lbs, and I use a Premier 7'2". It was decently priced, floats me well, and I can even catch mush waves with it.
