Coup in Thailand

Postby rich r » Tue Sep 19, 2006 6:34 pm

Breaking news, folks - military coup in Thailand.

My question is - how will this affect surf travel in the region?

aaaaaah SH1T! Its going to screw everything up! This happened back in 1992 (aorund that date) and there was lots of bloodspill and fighting. It killed tourism for 3 years.

This is a bit of an issue for me, seeing as I own a boat company that relys on tourists alone..

It will be great for surf. Less crowded breaks around here. Like the Tsunami, people just left and didn't come back.

Dec are you at all worried about getting caught up in the fighting, or is it just from a buisness point of view?

Anyhow good luck and stay safe!!!!!

It says in the news that there isnt any fighting - the so-called 'bloodless coup'. Lets hope it stays that way.

Not about the fighting (I am way to far away from Bangkok for it to be a problem) Its just a buisness point of view. Seeing as I am in the tourist industry, and thats how I rely on making money...Who is going to go to thailand now that there is a millitary coup?

On the news just now they were saying that it shouldn't affect tourists at all... I can't believe it won't, there's fleshin' tanks in the street. But, I always believe everything I hear on the television, so it must be true!

well they said on the radio that it shouldnt bother tourists as phuket and the islands arent affected and that most people there wouldnt even notice anything was going on, they seemed pretty positive about it.

Yea, it wont affect tourists on the island at all. Its just those that want to come to Phuket are going to think twice before coming..and possibly pick another desitnation.

Highly lame for this tourist season coming up!
