Off to Maui

Postby SDCali » Mon Jul 31, 2006 1:08 am

Well in less than 48 hours I will be in Maui, hopefully sitting on the beach. Have find a place to rent a board, as mine is too big to travel with me. This is my 3rd trip, but only second since I started surfing (took one day lesson last year) want to get more time in this year though, will try to find and share some good beginner spots that aren't overly crowded.

Will try to post when there, but may not be until after I get back. Last trip (2 weeks w/ whole family of 5) we probably took something over 2,000 pictures.

I have never seen sharks in all my trips to hawaii, they usually frequent the north shores of the islands (which are not generally spots for a beginner surfer like myself). Plus I know I won't be mistaken for a seal as I won't have to wear a wetsuit. :) :D

lucky, well aparently great white sharks are become more common in the uk, they'v been killing seals of the west coast of wales, so if they can go to wales they will probably be in cornwall and devon, so i recon in a few years sharks will be a problem for the averadge british surfer. get your diving knife at the redy

Kihei, on the southern shore is where I did lessons this year. There are several shops & schools that do board rentals, basically anywhere you can find a beach you can find a place to rent a board. Kihei is much less crowded than Lahaina for learning and developing you skills.
Check out my other post on Maui, it is a basic report on the various areas/surf spots in Maui.
