Im with you on that 1 brah, but during this drought we're having alcohol is a nice alternative, + a few beers with the boys is far more sociable than a whole bunch of dudes siting in silence with eyes 1/2 closed!

beer urg! (unless I'm really desperate and a bottle of stella is my only option, like at my brothers house). having said that I do like shandy - but I always feel really bloated afterwards :? . I love wine & champagne (if only I had the money). Although last week i tasted this gorgeous thing my mate got in greece - can't remember what it was called but it was 40% and it was like drinking pure chocolate!!!! It was sooooo nice and it didn't even taste like alcohol. After a few shots we were on the floor. I could drink it non stop (if I didn't have a job and have to pretend to be a responsible adult).

Yep, I find six packs of bottled Newcastle Brown Ale at my local supermarket or convenience store all the time.

Kronenburg, Stella (if have to - gets a bit leary), Coors, Bud, Tiger, Cobra, Tsing Tau, Kingfisher, Dorada, Tropical, Corona, Sol, Carlsberg Export, Fosters (if only wanting a quiet one), plus many more can't think of... what happened to Schlitz? - used to love that stuff.

Don't really like Grolsh, Becks, Kronenburg Blanc, and others I forget but obviously if thats all there was then... :D .

Usually I switch to vodka and coke later tho... erm except last sat when I think I was drinking Magners a bit with Guiness and a few turbo shandies (stella/schmernof ice) thrown in for good measure. Not recomended. I got home then found I lost my keys (house and car) and phone somewhere, so I ran ( ?) to mates house 20 mins away to see if I'd left em in taxi with him when I got out - no, so slept on his couch with my neck at wrong angle resulting in about only 20% of normal neck mobility for 2 days :x and still no keys or phone :x !

how so? im not an expert but in abnormal psychology, and psychobiology, ive been taught about korsokoffs syndrom (permanent and serious dibilitating alcohol brain damage) and the way your brain shrivels when youre on it, and about fetal alcohol syndrome.

i havent heard anything about the long term effects of marijuana, only 1 short term side effect, short term memory loss. those are the side effects of thc, and does NOT inclide the toxins and tar you recieve when you smoke it. but the truth is or atleast seems to me to be: there are no long term effects and no withdrawl symptoms of THC.

im not calling you wrong, but id like to know where you heard that or where i could find some information on it myself.

my brother... he's a doctor (neurosurgen to be precise)... he smokes it sometimes (or used to)... personally, I've suffered from short term memory loss.... not cool! I have to make a list of things to do before I forget what it is I have to do, i forget what I was talking about when interupted, and other little things...

but both alcohol and marijuana are drugs, so... logic would dictate that both kill brain cells...

oh, and libby, that peach beer is 'kriek bellevue'... theres a drink called peche mel buch... its that peach beer mixed with a strong (14%) brown ale called buch... great summer drink....

There's more than just short term memory loss.

For example, demotivation is quite insidious.

And it is quite addicitive - just not physically addictive. Think about it, how many people do you know that smoked it regualrly and now smoke rarely if ever.

Yep. You know of a small handful, as compared to the legion or so who smoke it daily.

People smoke and drink to get away from reality. That, my friends, is mental/emotional addiction.

I reckon smoke(ganj) and drink is fine in moderation, but long term heavy smokers are suffering from mental health issues.
Mind you so are long term heavy drinkers, and it is impossible to say for sure that it is the smoke or the drink which is causing the mental health problems or weather peole who develop these mental health problems smoke and drink in excess due to their mental health and possibly their narcotic intake is unrelated.
But basically you should never let your vices control you. You may choose to partake but if you feel you have to to then you are probs in trouble.

Just for the record, as an ambulance paramedic ,I never have calls involving people who smoke too much or people who took too much coke or Es. However we are inundated by calls to drunk people and a fair few smack heads need our help too tho.

Im with Broosta - a little bit of what you fancy wont hurt.

And alcohol clearly causes loads of problems.

But weed/resin/whatever does have longterm side-effects - mostly to do with paranoia, psychosis and (possibly) schizophrenia. There's loads of scientific papers and studies out there that show this Some Medical Studies - Type in 'marijuana' and 'psychosis' for instance

And you dont need scientists to tell you that - anyone who knows someone who's smoked for a lifetime knows that. :?

what are some of the physical withdrawl symptoms?

its addictive because of its immediate pleasing effect, etc.. its classical conditioning, positive reinforcement. most people like me dont get addicted, but a few do.

however, there is no withdrawl. you heard me. none. none. no psychological or physical or biological or whatever. side effects and even those minor long term effects you mentioned are not withdrawl symptoms they are side effects.

marijuana and apparently cocaine (which i have never tried) have no withdrawl symptoms, except maybe perceived boredom.. much less than nicotine or caffeine

Yep good stuff DBBB, and I'd just like to clarify that when I said in earlier post that people are having mental health issues I meant they are full on residents in mental health wards/accomodation receiving medication and seeing doctors daily and not just people who are a bit forgetfull sometimes.

i will look at tlat later since its 1 am and i must be up at 7 am.

but i want to say that that schizophrenia thing sounds obserd and ive never heard it before which is odd being a 4th year psych major.

also my mom is a hippie and smokes more than me (quite regularly)

her stoner hippie relaxed attitude gets on my nerves a lot but other than that i dont see anything wrong with her as far as marijuana is concerned.
