new board

Postby nsidla » Wed Aug 23, 2006 2:26 am

I just bought my first board, a Canyon 6'10'' 21.5 wide and 2.5 thick. Its got a squash tail and a tri-fin thruster FCS set up. I already had experience in catching and surfing waves, (bodyboarding, bodysurfing) and the dude at the shop said this would be good cause he thought I would catch on quickly, I managed to stand up on the board and ride/ sort of cut into shore within about 2-3hrs. I'm about 5'11'' and around 177lbs. Just wanted some info about what type of board this actually is according to specs and if anybody knows anything about Canyon surfboards and if they're decent for the price. By the way anybody else here live in RI.

I don't know anything about canyon boards but the board sizes you've stated suggest that the board is quite a large thruster. 21 inches is quite wide and at 2.5 inches thick it should have quite alot of volume.
Some photos would help us give you an idea of how good the board is but size wise it should a good board to progress on especially if you can already catch waves and get to your feet.

the board

Yeah the board is quite volumous, if that is a word, had fun this past Monday with the swell and looking foward to the Florence swell. by the way i weigh closer to 170lbs actually and the board is extremely buoyant. I find this to be a problem since it seems nearly impossible to duckdive with it. Also, now that i can actually ride waves across it seems to be high up from the water and if I dont have enough wax i fall off when i make the first cut into the wave, i was watching some guys long boarding and they seemed to be a bit lower in the water when riding waves. It has been a great board so far though even if 2 mondays i was surfing at a wierd tide at East Matunuck and rode my board into the sand damaging the center fin of it and instead of snapping off ripped apart my board. But luckily it got fixed and my board is all set now.
