Protecting your board whilst travelling

Postby jennie » Sat Sep 02, 2006 8:29 pm

Im off to Costa Rica in about 3 weeks and taking a 6 6" (the one that kitesurfer fixed up...thanks again chris!) and was wondering how to package it so it doesnt get damaged on the way over. I dont think me or the board could handle another repair job!

I was planning to shove aload of clothes in the bag for padding and to ease up on my luggage but apparently you cant do that anymore...

Anyone got any ideas/advice/experience with transporting boards?

foam!!!!!!!
bubble wrap. ultra heavy duty bag. Get a bag for a 7.3, put board in middle and foam all over.

pipe lagging (like you use on roofracks) on the rails.
Also you can get travel insurance which includes boards (including transporting them), think i saw that on the BSA website

all grand suggestions guys...cheers

I think i will definitely put pipe lagging around the rails and shove a load of bubble wrap in.

I figured i need all the padding i can get so was going to shove a load of clothes in there, but apparently you cant do that anymore...Has anyone travelled with a board recently and not been aloud to pack clothes in the case?
