Hey corkey,

It would definitly be easier to learn to stand up on a longer board.

If you go to the main site, there's a topic called 'surfing lessons' and that will tell you what you need to know. How long is your shortboard? Typically, shortbaords are not good beginners boards, but if you've got the determination, then perserve with it.

Have you ever had any surfing lessons before? What is your surfing experience so far?

(and as I'm off on holiday in an hour, I'll leave this to everyone else to answer.... mwah ha ha!!)

the main part of this site has a decent guide. Yep getting started on a longer board is probably a lot easier but its not impossible to start out on a shortboard it just be a little more trickey.
