Hi,

The first time I went surfing was group holiday in Croyde. We didnt do any warm up at all and followed the same (2.5 hr) format.

The following day everyones leg were pretty much ok its just the arms and particularly the pecs that hurts from pushing up - the only cool down we did was trying to get out of the wetsuit!

Slighlty frustrating in that once you finally learn to stand up and balance your arms are knackered and its gets harder to push up. - Gets you in shape though I guess and once the muscles are built up you're good to go.

Hope you enjoyed!

I was SOOO sore the day after my first surfing lesson, could be because I spent 3 hours out there but who knows haha. I couldnt even move my sholuders the next day and forget about lifting your arms over your head for at least a few days. But dont get me wrong its totally worth it, just take it easy your first time and dont stay out for more than an hour or two

ahh i could go on forever.

poor infrastructure and horrible traffic. boring culture with hardly any music and arts and sort of a small-town attitude of the locals. constant heat, which everyone thinks is great but t-shirts and shorts get boring, and sweating and stinking every single day because its so damn hot and humid is not fun either. ive lived here for as long as i can remember and the island seems to shrink every single day as i get older. i have literally seen almost everything when it comes to scenery. there is nowhere to go. to leave this little island would mean a $500 plane ticket and 6 hours to california. im so over this place.

as soon as i graduate from college im leaving and never coming back.

that happens to me every time i leave. when i come back, i think: "it couldnt have possible been this hot when i left." its a combination of heat and humidity. so if you see that we average in the upper 80's for summer and upper 70's in the winter, it actually feels like 10-15 degrees hotter. i even sweat in my sleep. the only exception is in the winter at night, when we get maybe 40 nights that go below 65.

i seriously cant imagine why you people always seem to hate winter. i loved it when i was in NYC a few years ago and it ranged between 15 and 40 degrees fahrenheit. below freezing got pretty uncomfortable outdoors, but i still liked it.

god i hate hawaii. maybe i dont belong on this forum since id give up surfing for a comfortable living and a better culture and arts scene. id rather do photography than go surfing on small days. the ironic thing is i probably surf more than most of the english or northern people on this site, just because of the winter and wave quality.not because i like it more.

heres an open question to everyone who reads this and thinks im crazy:

if hawaii is so great, why dont you move here? there are jobs, the cost of living is high but not nearly as high as england and some U.S. cities. you can find a small apartment for $500 a month, $700 for a comfortable apartment, in town and no firther than a block away from a bus stop. the cost of food and goods is more that mainland U.S. but again, less than UK's prices. if youre english i would think you could get a work visa.

id rather go some where with less people, dont get me wrong i do think your crazy though

i could happly live in hawaii, i just dont know if i could cope with the crowds in the line up

you got to rember the grass is allways greener on the other side of the fence and when you have been living in england all your life and only geting maybe 2-3 weeks a year of perfect sunny weather the rest is normaly cold, overcast or raining. you would soon get sick of it and dream of endless summer weather.

That's why I love New Jersey.

North Jersey is crowded as all hell, but where I live in central Jersey it's more open, not congested, no crazy traffic, and;

45 minutes to NYC (driving - 40 minutes by fast ferry)
25 minutes to my local break
15 minutes to Sandy Hook
5 minutes to the Raritan bay beach
40 minutes to the Delaware River
50 minutes to the mountains
30 minutes to the airport

Summer water temps from July through November from 65 to 78 F
April/May through June water runs about 55 to 60F
end of Nov through March, water's 45F (too cold for me, but good snowboarding weather, anyway)

Although lately, we mostly have 2 seasons (Summer and Winter, split by 2-4 weeks of rain and crazy temp swings in the 'Spring' and 2-4 weeks of wind, crazy temp swings and a possible snow shower in September for the 'Autumn'), those seasons are pretty nice.

Culture, affordability, good schools, high standard of living.. the only bitch would be auto insurance rates.
