First Time Motorbike

hey guys and gals.

I know that loads of people here love motorbikes (Cheezee*cough), so I need some help.

I have ridden a few bikes, nothing special..But I was considering getting a proper bike. I have been reading about it, and I've asked a few friends and they say get a easy road bike to start off with.

So, what are some good begginer bikes and what am I going to pay for it?

Unless your a massive size person, I think a Honda Rebel wood be a great starter bike. I know here in the US you can pick one up under $2K.

Hey dec, have you passed your test yet ? If not i would start out with something basic and cheap, learn your mistakes on that and then progress to a bigger bike. If you have a liscence then there are so many choices to make, like do you want a sports bike, super moto , cruiser , etc. if you let me know what your after i will find out about it...

About tests... Here I have already taken my full A license (one test, first time, no theory..etc) but this is Thailand.

Whats the deal over in the states or UK?

The tests in the uk are confusing, if your under 21 you are restricted in BHP, if your over 21 i think you could ride anything. I hope cheezee can confirm this cos i passed my test ages ago....

Here in thailand the laws are, pass your test if your 15 or older. That test covers everything, unlimited Horses, engine, everything.

As for bikes...argh, it's really hard to get bikes here!

I wouldn't go for the Rebel myself, if your going to take a pillion the 250cc engine might not cope to well.

There were a few years they offered it in a 450cc model as well as the 250.

Ok, what size engine should I get? Something that won't blow my brains out the back, and something that will actually move me.

Oh, I found in a newspaper that Thailand has the second most deaths (according to population) per year. Here in Phuket it is 20 deaths a month, 200 serious accidents a month

Hey Dec, if you can ride , i would suggest a Suzuki Bandit 600. Very good all round bikes, won't rip your arms off, very reliable , good at cornering, and quite cheap over here.

Worrying accident rate over there, just be careful......

I wish I could find a bike like that here! It's seriously difficult to find something like that..it's all old man choppers or stupid mopeds..

How much would one of those bad boys set you back?

I Think brand new should be about £4000 ish , but second hand anywhere from £2000 +

I already lurve this bike. Looks a lot like what my friend has got, but its a Honda or summat'!?

As for your bike...A speed deamon I can only wish for.

£2000..That's not too bad. Still quite a bit out of the old pocket.

Yes my bike is a speed demon, scare's me sometimes, i have had the top end out of it, 182 mph on the clock..

How do you stay on the road? I mean, I have done track days in cool looking cars and reached 150..Everything wobbles and starts to get uncontrolable. 182 on a bike...

The bandit should do about 130mph.

Dec - have you thought about getting a 'crosser? Something like an XT350? They're dead easy to ride, lots of fun, dont break too much when you drop 'em. They're top bikes to start on and lots of fun (did I mention that?)

Something like the bandit is fine... perfect learner bike... but, well... dull

Yea, I have ridden a "'crosser" (note the cool biker talk ) when i was a teenager.
